If you ever need 20p or in my case have an annoying rattle try this modders way of fixing it!

1. Pull up edge of front of gear surround trim.
2. Remove gear surround trim (to limit of gear stick).
3. Then release tabs on either side of ash tray.

I found £1.80 in my sisters old A class today lol In a simular fashion to how you found yours, i had to take the centre console off to sort out the gearstick

4. Then Remove ashtray.
5. pull off plastic trims to the side of where the ash tray lives.
6. Turn the locking screws through 180 degrees anticlockwise using a T30 Torx screwdriver.

7. Use a 10mm socket to remove the two screws under the carpet in your armrest and also the two in front of the cupholder comparment.

8. Lift complete centre consul and armrest.

9. Remove rattling 20p!!!!!:Grrrrrr

A ridiculous amount of work in order to stop a rattle but strangely satisfying:)

Hmm that was worth the effort.

I know.... just because you'd dismantle it every week just to hoover it!;) Actually i discovered that the Haynes manual is incorrect about this proceedure. It doesn't tell you to remoce the bolts in front of the cupholder section.

i found a fiver in the 190, a quid i cant get to, its stuck in the inner seat runner :(. so whatever i sell it for its a quid extra!

well done!
This remember me my previous W202 when I dismounted the whole carpet between the front seat to find a bolt rolling between frame and carpet!

I understand your satisfaction now!;)

These things do get very annoying and one can become obsessed!

I have a rattle in the boot.
I will search for the 20p tomorrow.

Hope you find it.First step take the spare wheel and tool kit out and go for a drive!

LOL. can you not remove the seat :)

I have already removed the spare wheel and the tools and the parcel shelf.
I think its the trim round the window.
I will get the wife in the back tomorrow while im driving.

i could but it doesn't rattle and it was there when i bought the car......i know!

if i put an extra 3 quid ontop of the price, i would have atleast doubled some money without actually getting the stuck quid lol

Thread resurrection alert!!! Do you know the part Number of the "gear surround trim" as you call it in picture 1 please? Mines the brwonish colour but is a bit scratched & I guess the easiest option is replacement? Or are there kits which you can use to "wrap" it or something like this? Cheers for any help...

I found an unused 9mm round in my W123.

I wondered where I left that.:o
