Hi all, I wanted to buy the trim to go on around the ignition but will not fit on because a cover is missing, after a lot of searching I managed to find what I thought was the part number and called Mercedes parts in Peterborough, they also described it as a cover, from the picture I had seen I though it may be made of rubber but I collected it and it is metal.

Problem is that it does not fit and now I find out that this is the one for my car but it seems that they changed the ignition on the following chassis numbers so anything later shall have a different cap, the first one cost a mere £18 but they will not refund me because they say they shall likely never sell another, if I wish for the other cap then it is £19 but also, if I order that and it is the wrong part I'm told company policy is that they do not give refunds unless the man behind the counter ordered it after checking himself.

So, I am unable to order the other one to see if it May even fit! They do not know what it looks like so it may appear quite different to the one I have and it seems that someone has fitted either a later ignition unit or an after market ignition to the car? like, how can that be possible- can they supply whole units?

The part being as shown below, the surround piece of trim fits over the black metal part which in turns covers the ignition barrel unit whatever.. I am not even contemplating even trying to do any of this myself but considering the car has been going to a supposed Mercedes specialist for the last 4-5 years imho he must be wearing a stetson but then what do I know.

I am trying to find out how different the later ignition unit is of a 190, anything supposedly post C1990 so at least I can either order the unknown looking part without falling foul of Mercedes non refund policy or buy a second hand unit and have it fitted by someone competent ..for a change. All help and advice very welcome.
