Hello,
I have a 2008 C Class 180K which i have had for about 18 months now. Last time it had a service was in March, B service.
A few months ago, i noticed that one of the 2 keys was not working with the vehicle. . The key wasnt opening or locking the vehicle, and when put in the ignition, it was not making the locking sound either. when turned, it would turn fine, but none of the lights on the dash would come on, and when it got to the start switch, nothing was happening. i just thought that the battery had died inside it. I took the key to Mercedes Salisbury last week, and after they had changed the battery in the key, we found out that it had not fixed the problem. They talked about booking the vehicle in to investigate the problem, and we agreed that i would call them in a couple of weeks as i going away, and also because the other key was working fine with the vehicle.
Yesterday, with my good key, i was driving on the M25 and everything was working fine. Up until i went to change lanes and i noticed that the indicator switches were not working. I had no messages on the dash for a failure, so i continued to investigate the problem. What i did find was that everything on the stalk had stopped working. So i had no wipers, no indicators, no wiper wash. PANIC. Luckily it wasnt raining at the time. The hazard switch was working fine, and the headlights were fine too.
I pulled over in a safe place, switched the vehicle off, pulled the key out, and locked before unlocking the vehicle again. Once i had put the key back in, All the lights and indicators started working again and i managed to drive back without an incident at all.
Does anyone have any idea of what could be causing this failure aand what my next move should be please?
