Was looking for a GPS detector that I could hide away (and not clutter up the dash with). So this with lifetime subscription and antenna looked a bargain. And no proof of readership required, mine arrived to today.

Will probably put the antenna under the rear speaker grill and the unit either in the centre console (cup holder storage bin) or on the underside of the "sunglasses" bit under the radio (if I decide I want to see the lights at all).

Blimey thats cheap:eek:
Let me know how it works and if it's effective as I have one in the Merc witn the Sat Nav but would consider a stand alone one for the Jag
Cheers

The same bundle is normally £59.99 - so yes half price. Off to B&Q in a moment - I'll see it if picks up the mobile location on the way (no fixed cameras neaby though).

Will it work in a CL?
I believe they have some sort of coating on the windscreen.
Colin.

They have an 'opening' in the infrared coating on the screen ...

Approx 6 x 4 inches , its in the handbook where it is ....

That's what the external (to the unit) antenna is for - if there is a "hole" like Howard says it can be located there, or elsewhere in the car (or even outside - might be possible to hide it at the bottom of the windscreen). Antenna comes with a 5m lead to get back to the unit.

Thanks for that lead, just ordered one, but had to do a google shopping search as the listed link didnt work for me. Same price as listed.

Peddle to the metal from now on.

A voice in my head is saying. 'Do you need one? you do remember that you are overdrawn' Oh its not in my head, its my girlfriend stood behind me.

Does the detector sound all the time or just in the area of cameras?

So... purely theoretically speaking... If one were to apply the same coating to their license plates... infrared cameras wouldn't work?

I don't know the IR frequency of the flahs lights of speed cameras that you appear to be afraid of but since those cameras are able to take a photo from the driver too, they must work with an IR light that is close enough to visible light and then it is impossible (for the licence plate type of an application) to have sharp enough passband to stopband transient. I assume the cameras must work with daylight too, the IR flash must be for nights only when they cannot use a flash with visible light.

The car window equally needs to filter "most of the IR band" and even a lousy transient is good enough to filter most of the frequency band that spans three orders of magnitude.

Anyone tested these speed cameras at night with a car with Night View Assist? The IR lights from the car could pretty much blind the speed camera at night.

In any case, how would you solve your speeding problem at daylight?

SiRF Star-III is already a very old chipset (does not mean it would not be good). It may be sensitive enough to get GPS signal from other windows but would seriously suffer if all windows were IR reflective and the receiver was not placed to one of the spots that pass RF signals.

Adds on products like these may not always be absolutely accurate. ;)
