Hi All,

A friend has just paid a deposit on an immaculate C43 up near Liverpool - can anyone recommend somewhere for a good inspection service around the area?

Looking back over the threads, I've found mention of these places:

Mercedes Frenz in Liverpool
MERCEDES CENTRE maghull liverpool

Actually, I made a boo-boo

South Wirral is closer, however Liverpool should be fine.

Only tried to use S&R once - they didnt even return my call. Not impressed!

I went to S&R after recommendations from this site....I had lots of cups of tea and pleasant conversation with the owner, and they relieved me of £400 ......unfortunately they didnt resolve the problem on my car ( tappett noise ) and it remained the same despite me returning the car back to them on several occassions. On one occassion they kept it for three weeks !!!..however they did give me an old 2.6 190 e courtesy car which was good fun ! I think they do get busy and probably are fine on service work etc
....I think any engine work should be done by Crewe Motors who come highly recommended ...Good Luck :)

Never a problem with S&R in nearly 10 years.

Still use them from up here in Carlisle.

How does that work ? It must cost you a fortune in time, petrol etc...what do you do ..hang around until your car is fixed ? Or drive back in a courtesy car [2.5 hr journey ]and then back again in a couple of days ? Surely this is a wind up ?.Or are you a relative / friend of the owner who looks after your car for free or even putsd you up for the night ? I was actualy being rather kind with my comments on S&R and was, right up to the end of my relationship with them. ....they always found "another job" that would require doing...which usually always seemed to be for around £500......... Some garages who deal in cars of a classic nature play on the fact that owners love to spend money on them to keep on top of them .I am just trying to give a balanced outlook on the garage. Garages are buisneses and are there to make money whatever anyone says. The think about S&R is that they are very polite, cups of tea, warm and inviting " a family type of buisness that looks after their clients " I just think people need to ba aware that this sometimes lures people into a false sense of security. :)

No, no wind up. Yes I'm a friend of the owner and staff, they having looked after my family and some friends' cars over a 10 year period. No, I don't get freebies, no he doesn't put me up overnight. I use the opportunity to visit friends and family in the Merseyside area.

I took no exception to any of your comments. I was merely passing on my observation/experience with that particular garage.

give crewe engines a ring, i know it is a bit of a way outside liverpool but the helped me out over the phone, and the know the classic mercs inside out

And then there is me

Yes Ian if I had a merc I would definitely bring my car to you...I know I have not met you, but from the posts you have submitted over the couple of years I have been a member on this forum it obviously shows you have a real passion for the cars, and my instincts would trust you 100%..:)

Ended up going to see Shane over at Merc Tech for the initial inspection. Sincerely appreciate your help Scott / & intro to the forum
