On UK-spec cars, MB replaced the ambient temperature display with the speed in km/h.

This way, the speed in km/h is always displayed, and the ambient temperature is only displayed when the 'Standard' display is selected. This was done to ensure that when driving on the Continent, the speed in km/h is always displayed.

On some models, it is possible to convert the UK instrument cluster display back to the European setup, this is known as 'delete UK mod'. An independent MB specialist with STAR should be able to do this for you if this option is supported for your vehicle.

looks like something that happened while your car was stationary otherwise the shape would of been elliptical. if it was something passing by near you while parked, again, it would of been a straight line, deep slash. It could be a stone during washing

As mentioned you can't generally change things yourself. Cars with real dials have a limited amount of space available to display stuff so are usually quite restricted ... on our Vito the outside temp is only visible on the odometer screen (and I'd normally have the trip screen displayed). Digital clusters are generally more informative e.g. you can always see the outside temp (and fuel range in miles, also useful) on our C Class

yes, not sure how i ended up replying here.

No worries, I often find that I don't know how I ended up where I did. It's an age thing, I think.... :D
