GLC 350d AMG Premium plus
I was planning to have a brabus d6 (III) tuning box installed on my E320 CDI.

Yesterday I called the insurance company and they would not quote for the mod. they checked 30 insurers with the same answer.

confused.com gave me quotes which ranged from 1200-2500. this is 2-4 times the quote for the car without the kit.

When I did this on my W203 there was no increase in premiums.

has anyone else had quotes this high for tuning chip mods?

Am insured with NFU. For previous (non MB) car I asked about a remap and they were happy to cover it with no premium increase.

Sounds like your broker does not deal with modified cars if 30 of their insurers won't quote!

For what the insurance companies will regard roughly as "engine chip up to 25% increase" there will be at least another 30 out there who will quote. Not talking heavilly modified, I doubt the specialist modified brokers will be competetive, just try a different broker.

Try A-Plan, they cater for all sorts, or I would say most of the direct insurers (apart from esure).

Well, my previous S203 had this kit installed and yes, I told the insurance company (DirectLine) who promptly told me the additional premium. They also told me that the increase are based on % power increase and value.

Cost: £170 more per year.

Total premium was only about £550 I think, with the kit installed.

Try Mercedes Insurance themselves (Norwich Union) - they insure my W204 with the same chip and they were way cheaper than Adrian Flux.

What is your opinion on this mod? Better MPG ? Power curve?

Only had the car 8 days - not been giving it much throttle to tell about the power curve. Can't comment on improved MPG as it was fitted from new. Sorry - not much help at all!

used to have mb insurance. Found them to be a rip off and not very helpful when my s203 was broken into and they used a c*** body repair shop won't use them again

I recommend adrian flux, i've put in claims with them too and everything has been smooth. My full exhaust mod only cost me an extra £25/year
