Insurance question

is a lazy **** who hasn't even as much as said thank you to me for the car I gave him for nothing

The above is the very reason i would leave him to sort out the mess himself.

Its a pity that a decent wee car is going to get scrapped but it is not your problem anymore as , like most of us , you probably have more important things to be getting on with.

Exactly

It really was a lovely wee car , a few tiny bits of rust here and there because of the age , but one owner from new , full service history by the supplying dealer up to about two years ago , when I think the old boy stopped driving it , every MOT with service carried out at the same time and annual mileages of 800-1000 miles between them , came from a nice house in a well to do street in Giffnock ( one of the nicer bits of Glasgow - all the right signs , nice cars come from nice people ) , and only 19K on the clock when I bought it , then I put 5K on it over the summer , during which it never missed a beat , engine ran like a wee sewing machine and it returned 50mpg all day long ,interior was like new , still is , even the carpets and paintwork inside the boot was like new - just brilliant for a stopgap car spotted on Gumtree at £500 - I was the first to phone , and by the time I got there the grandson who was selling it had half a dozen other calls - it pays to be fast .

I thought it would be a great first car for my nephew , and gave him it for nothing , but galling that he never even thanked me for it , and now this has happened.

Hence I feel ticked off and want no more involvement.

Sorry got to ask (I’m nosey like that), what did he say on Facebook that made someone smash his windows?
I don’t know , just that it was an argument about politics

Although I'm wanting to leave it to him to sort out , I had a quick perusal on eBay this morning , turns out the tailgate glass is bonded too , but I found a seller offering a good tailgate , in the correct colour ( Candy White ) for only £25 , he will also do the bits of door glass for £8 each , so basically everything but the windscreen for £73 .

Only sticking point is he's in Watford and will only send the stuff on a pallet if I organise it , cheapest quote so far is about £65 .

I have offered to pay for the parts if my family pay the carriage - silence is deafening ...

I even offered to fix the car during Christmas holidays because a) thats when it suits me to do it , and b) a few weeks without a car might focus his mind a bit .

Is that last bit bad of me ?

Yes, because...
Not my car anymore , so I don't want to have anything more to do with it .
You're allowing yourself to be dragged into someone else's problem when you already know it's not the right thing to do.

That's the trouble with being a good person: we find it difficult to do the harsh, but ultimately right, thing.

Well , I've done a deal with my nephew : my sister is still trying to clear out our mum's house ( mum passed away in June and it has been a hard slog ) so my nephew and his girlfriend have been tasked with clearing out the garage ( the carrot being he gets his car inside under cover until I can fix it at Christmas ) and has to paint two bedrooms plus the hallway , and lift the old carpets from each of these areas , plus whatever other tasks my sister gives the two of them over the coming two weeks she has taken off work to progress getting the house ready for sale .

£90 ( I did a deal with the seller ) plus a day or two of my time not a bad deal for two weeks of labour from the two of them :)

You should be negotiating BREXIT
