A bit of a funny one really. I was cleaning my 1994 s124 and noticed a bit of trim missing. I phoned the garage who had been working on this area and asked them did they forget to put it back. To be fair, it might never have been there. But this lead to me photograph all my bits of crap trim (scuffed, cracked) and going to the parts department of MB Stratford just to see if they still produced the bits.

And blow me if they were all still available after 18 years albeit with 2d-2w delivery and still seemed to cost pennies. Except for the speaker grilles in the rear doors which were seriously expensive at £50+ but the bits of plastic were no more than around £10 each.

I am about to go back and order them all around £150 in total. Very pleasantly surprised and much more effective than trawling the internet or getting dirty in scrap yards. I may even buy some more bits... and with moderate luck be able to fit them all myself.

The wood trim is pretty pricey but like you I have been pleasantly surprised by how reasonable other bits and pieces are.

There will be many 124 parts left but its a case now with what ever is left in the warehouse in germany.

I particularly found this when ordering bits for my coupe. For example cruise control wiring loom, there was only 3 left in germany. Well 1 now seeing as a member on here bought one too.

124 bits are slowly on the way out. Its not like they are going to re-manufacture them once the stock is out.

Of course they will!

you can get pretty much any part.. ive been ordering random minor bits even for my pagoda.. once they run out of stock or get low they get their suppliers to make a new batch...

If something is not to be made again they make it clear by listing the item as a "final stock" item...
There are not many in this category for W124's yet..

The bits they tend to end first are trim... even then they tend to limit the colour choices rather than finishing the item altogether. They will always keep mechanical and essential parts.. sometimes at a price though...

Indicator stalk for my pagoda - £350!

They will.........

main stream/mechanical bits yes - stuff like speacialist interior bits, looms and trims i think no.

i was advised by the parts dept, mabe because they're tired of me bugging them!

they can be a right lazy bunch.

he even told me they have stopped making the wipers for wash wipe?!

As some may know I needed a new front bumper for the 124. Arrived from Germany in 48 hours. Last year I was in my local dealer when someone came in for the very same thing to be told no stock anywhere - even Germany. They clearly do make new parts when they run out even for old cars. Also when I needed some cables etc for the heater the parts guy said dont worry. If they have not got any in Germany they will get them made up for you. I think you can get still hold of most things.

This is interseting, I need a part that says 'no longer available' on EPC when i click on it in the notes section.

Its a mechanical part. Does that mean they will be able to make it?

I got the impression that they would order a new batch from the manufacturer. Talk to parts at MB Poole as they seem to know more about older cars than most dealers.

Merc take their heritage very seriously (oldest and longest car manufacturer in the world etc etc)

It is a very safe bet buying an older Merc for this very reason, and that is why prices of good old Mercs is also a safe financial investment.

The new younger generation coming through will be the next customers
for our weekend coupes etc etc , so there will always be a market for the good cars, which of course are becoming rare by the day now.

Yes I put off replacing that part for 2 years... but it was bugging me as mine was all worn and loose.. so in the end i had to pay...

Yes - but a proper Pagoda can be a £40k/£50k car today, so it's peanuts in
comparison.

But it does explain why the proper cars (with nil expenditure required) are so valuable.

These proper cars can only increase in value.
