Im on the trail of an SL but many have either a very tatty interior or a colour i do not like. Is it feasible to do a colour change ? re dye , re cover etc.

You don't say which SL?

Anything is possible - re-dye, exchange interior, re-trim. Given the amount of trim in these cars, it might make sense to start with something as close as possible, or you start replacing door cards, carpets, dashboards, boot trim etc......

w107 i know somebody who done whole retrim for £800 in leather.

but consider the dash door cards and carpets, it is costly to change colour unless u find a a cheap donor car

if the interior is tatty then i suspect you'll encounter more common 107 issues than the interior.... rust etc....

whatever you buy, buy it on body/structure condition over the interior....

Agree^

Interior is very robust - leather will still look ok at 100k with the odd mark here or there.

found car

bought a 1980 350 sl this week, interior good but not fantastic. Its the dark beige colour interior, body is light green. cloth and mbtex seats.
the entire carpet set needs to be replaced in time, also maybe recover of seats. Will do all work myself if anyone cares to recommend suppliers. Also another question if I may. i am in ireland and want to visit one really good sl show, one that will have lots of people selling items for sl rejuvenation. Would the Sl day at blenheim palace be the one to go to?? all suggestions most welcome.

I used these to replace my boot carpets Mercedes SL Type 107 I used the Delux for the boot which is nice quality (the price has gone up sonce I bought), but I would consider the Wool Pile fo rthe interior as it will be harder wearing.

thanks

thanks for that, look good indeed.
Question what is the best UK car show to go to for buying `SL bits and accessories ?? the upcoming SL weekend, Beaulieu or another??

None of them are any good for SL bits. Plenty of advice though. :thumb:

thanks pontoneer and druk, the site recommended by pontoneer looks excellent, I definitely have to re do the seats and wonder has anyone tried their new product, ie the cnc cut bases made from hair and what looks like foam.

look at ebay.com americans have replacements quite reasonably priced

thanks, one more question, is it possible to replace just the material in the seats that are vinyl/cloth. IE can i order material and then dissasemble the seat covers and stich in the new material? ill give it a go if someone else has done it.
