Strange problem,

sometimes when switched to position 1 my intermitent wipers work continiously ( as in low speed) & go on even though the squeel on the dry screen, on other occasions they work as intermitent. I have noticed that the winscreen has been replaced at sometime in my car along with the wiper blades which I think are those cheap replacement rubber types.

I wonder if the springs within the blades have lost their pressure & not clearing the rain sensor sufficently.

any thoughts anyone ?

Well, my first thought was to spell intermittent with double t  (I won't mention continuously, squeal, windscreen or sufficiently :D).

The rain sensors are adjustable, so if they are too sensitive, your dealer should be able to change the setting.

However, it is of course also possible that when replacing the screen, something was not done properly. I've read about glue getting onto the rain sensor and interfering with it, there are probably other potential causes.

As you say that it happens sometimes, does that imply that at other times they are working correctly, i.e. that they do correctly switch off when the screen is dry? If so, than the cause must be non-permanent too, I would think.

Intermittent ( with two t's) LOL

Yes that is correct, I'm looking to replace the wiper blades as in other posting, with Bosch or PIAA Super Silicone

As for the single t :o :o :o :o

Macolm,

Haven't used Rain X but have used Autoglym fast glass & polish

Even new wipers can display this trait with the sensor, it seems to depend on how clean the screen is, how heavy the rain is and how much dirt is in the preceding vehicles spray.

Give the screen a good scrub with isopropyl alchohol or similar (meths), then wax it where the sensor sits or even all over.

You may need new wipers also but a good clean can work.

From what we see on here (Goldfish), Aquapel is better than Rain-x

you may need the adaptations done, i had a problem with mine when the screen was replaced, it had to be put on the star and re-adapted to the shade number on the windscreen, now it works just as it should. chips, dirt wax or even oil can effect the way the sensor/wipers work.
