Intermittent non-starter (Fuel flow back?)

A sniff of ether does it easiest.

I'd do the lot whilst your thus engaged. Unless you find that the other pipes look new-ish and clear.

Is this the pipe you took off?
Yes, that looks like the pipe. I phoned MB in Bedford and they say they will have it in tomorrow morning. I was surprised by MB's price - £16 plus VAT. Happy days. So hopefully I can just press in each end and it will eventually start with a jump and some Easy Start

Are you going to leave the filter alone and just fit the pipe? Some people rub a small bit of diesel on the fresh rubbers so they click into place easier but there isn't much of a difference.

It should be as simple as that, just make sure it's turning over fast and it will bleed up in no time!

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks everybody for your help. The replacement pipe from MB was £16+VAT.

I'm certainly not enjoying the experience, I wish the many professionals I have taken this car to over the last couple of years had just some of the knowhow exhibited by members of this forum. The RAC might even have thought a bit about the problem, they've been out so many times they refuse to come out for the same fault (nobody ever thought of checking for leaks in the fuel supply lines). I just need to try to get the car running again tomorrow so I can go home to Glasgow for the weekend. I'll arrange to get the rest of the plumbing replaced by a mechanic at a convenient time.

Thanks for asking, I fitted the new pipe in about a minute and with a jump start got started in 2 minutes. I dont want to tempt fate but haven't had trouble starting since. I am still in limp home mode and don't have any faults displayed. I am embarrassed to say I'm way way late for "service b", could that be it? Anyway as said earlier it's no inconvenience as a drive like the old man I am

That's good it started easy for you!

Is it constantly in limp or shortly into the journey? Hard to say what it could be without knowing more, could be something simple like the MAF or split pipe. At least your back on the road!

Again, its unpredictable, and not something I really notice. I very seldom find a need to kick-down or exceed 3000 rpm so really am not troubled by or that aware of the issue. I accelerate gently up to speed and try to anticipate traffic and conditions so I seldom have to brake or accelerate heavily. Ill see if I can locate and clean the MAF and check the associated pipes, thanks again
