does anyone use a programme that will hide your ip address,ive tried several but they all slow the internet connection down to an intolerable speed.

Many web anonymizers are actually honey traps that are being closely monitored.

Your browsing is no doubt proxied by your ISP anyway.

If it's to stop your torrent files from being tracked, try out Peer Guardian. A "friend" has had a few emails about certain downloaded files, and nothing so far after using Peer Gaurdian.

For browsing... tor: Tor: anonymity online

For torrenting... just ensure your client accepts and creates only encrypted connections.... and has an updated blackist from peer guardian...

Although I don't file share I did try Peer Guardian on our server a while back - the logging is quite illuminating results in terms of how many people are trying to access your machine.
