Is a AMG c class a supercar brand?

Supercars have to be mid engined, RWD or FWD, 2 seats, 8cylinder plus.

C63 only fits 50% of that basic criteria.

Then there is the exoctic test. An R8 hits all the briefs above, but isnt a supercar in the way a Zonda is.

So the 911 isn't a supercar?

I think it is like the art/porn thing - you know it when you see it.

Sorry, this is a supercar, no matter where the engine is:

Likewise any RUF...

Supercars can also be rear-engined, if you only allow mid-engined cars you're cutting out a LOT of models which frankly ARE supercars :)

It absolutely is not a supercar. Its a sports car.

The 959 came close to supercar status, but the F40 and Countach were the true supercars of that day.

I'll take shudes point, maybe a Ferrari 599 is a supercar, but its more a GT. Mid engined RWD and exotic are the main criteria.

MacLaren F1. I rest my case.

So a 220mph 911 (sorry, CTR12) from RUF isn't a supercar but a sports car, however a 180mph Countach is?

If the 959 isn't a supercar then I don't want a supercar :D

It's subjective, I guess.

I can't actually think of any MBs that I'd class as a supercar. The CLK GTR goes way beyond IMO!

When I think "supercar" I think Lamborghini Muira, flawed in many many ways but has the key ingredients, power, beauty, lunacy and exoticness.

BMW had the M1 and that's it. Does the Audi R8 not have little seats in the back? It misses the point by a lot methinks, too PC!

If I fit a Pagani 7.3 lump to my S class does it become a supercar?

A CTR12 is justed a modded 911. In the same way that a Brabus E class coupe is not a supercar but can do 230mph. Anyway, its a 6pot car so is immediately discounted. The XJ220 is an exception that proves the rule but as that was a bespoke design that was meant to get a 12 I'll allow it.

Its very subjective and a set of rules, that well, just are.

Couldn't agree more! The Miura is my all-time favourite supercar! "Experienced" one when I was about 11 at Bristol Street Motors in Kensington and was blown away! My Dad knew the sales manager and I got half an hour to sit and dream in the lime green beauty! Never forgotten it, never will... I've always wondered what they were like to drive, but can't find one to hire!!

For me, yes. For others, no :thumb:

I don't see why a 200mph 4-door saloon shouldn't be a "supercar", but I'd accept that generally it's something that resembles a 430.

Back doors? Back seats?

You're talking about a super-saloon I'm afraid ;)

It can't JUST be about performance though can it -- if I put a V12 in my S211 and it went over 200 mph, would it become a supercar?? I doubt it - maybe a super estate!! :D (nice idea though - be an ultimate Q car...:D )

A supercar should have the same profile as a wedge of cheese. TR7 has special dispensation though!

Something that sane people lust after and that can do the Nordschleife in under 8mins - how about that? :D

Labels are meaningless, at the end of the day - just letters and sounds. It's your reaction to a car that matters, and I'd happily take the above W124 over a brand new 458 Italia.

So, what is a "hypercar" then???
