Currently in Krakow, return flight booked but....

I've been asked to drive an S600 back instead. Problem is time and work commitments.

Basically.if I can get from Krakow to Calais in 9 hours, I'll take the S600 - is it possible?

Assume I'll drive like I stole it.

possible, but depends on how much is urban driving

800 ish miles total..

id say success chance is 6/10

road works, getting lost and various other unforeseen circumstances are why i say 6 out of 10

Good Luck.. I suspect the 9 hour drive will be more rewarding, even if it ends up being 10 or 11 hrs ;)

It sounds more like a 12 hour journey...

I'd still take the Merc though.

Not a hope in hell - call in sick and enjoy the drive.

I don't do "call in sick".

6/10 means its do-able (probably). :-)

From recollection there's a fair chunk of unrestricted autobarn ... Middle of the night, we have to be looking at 500 miles in 3 hours easy, the balance should be a breeze.

6/10 means its do-able, I like your logic Sp!ke, seems like you are tempted whatever the time constraint, besides you are going to need to be doing in excess of 180 for those three hours, bearing in mind how many stops for fuel you will need. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These times are based on 70mph on motorways etc.

If you average a mile-a minute (60mph) the time is 12, hours. So to make it in 9, hours you will have to average 90mph.

Re-jigging the route will cut the distance by some way, but still a huge ask. If you make it it will be no mean feat.

Best of Luck. :thumb:

It's 924 miles. You'll be pushed to do it in 12 hours, let alone nine. Last month I did Leipzig to Calais in 7 hours, doing up to 130 mph where I could. The new A38 is now open all the way from Leipzig to Kassel, and is not speed restricted, so good progress can be made here, but once you get to Unna, it all gets slow and congested pretty much all the way, depending on time of day. But hey, go for it anyway, you'll just be back a little late.

As for trying to achieve the distance in 9, hours.. I would personally tap that idea on the head.

We've had enough RIP's on the forum as it is.

Unfamiliar territory, non-regular car (as good as it is) wildlife appearing at 120mph.. in the dark..

Not worth the risk at all IMHO.

Hmmm

Even assuming for a moment that the time and distance were possible , is the car up to it , and are you ?

Is this car known to you - or is it a sight-unseen car with unknown maintenance history , unknown reliability and unknown TYRES ? If the latter , I would not want to jump into it and drive any distance at high speed , never mind halfway across Europe . A leisurely drive at more modest speeds would be an entirely different matter .

Are you driving solo , or do you have a co-driver with whom you can take turn about ? You simply cannot safely drive that distance without 'proper' rest stops of at least an hour , at intervals of every three or four hours at the very most and ideally more frequently than that . Two of you , swapping driving every couple of hours would be much safer . One also ( at least I do ) tends to drive that bit more safely with passengers in the car to be concerned about than 'just' oneself .

Also , driving through the night ( a time when your body clock will strongly insist you ought to be sleeping ) , without having had a 'proper' quota of sleep beforehand , is not something that many of us can do successfully .

Not a good idea , IMHO .

familiar car... familiar roads, shared driving, used to driving 12 hour + stints anyway - body clock will be used to night time as I anticipate we'll be drinking 'till 5am each day prior.

155 limited car which is 32mph less than what I'm used to.

But you're right (of course) we shouldnt really be thinking about this. Live fast die young and all that.

Will see if I feel different in 3 hours when I have to go to work.... damn its tomorrow already.

[time to sleep]

zzzzzzzzz :D

Have you factored in any stops? Police may enforce one for you!!!!!

Just as long as blood/alcohol levels have returned to safe and legal levels then :dk:

Good Luck :thumb:

Perfectly acceptable viewpoint provided you don't end up killing someone else such as the young family in some old hatchback who may have decided that a long and happy life for their children is their "lifestyle choice".:dk:

It sounds like one of those drunken "seemed like a good idea at the time!" to me, but if you are serious (and presumably not about other people's safety when you weigh it all up)

I don't do "call in sick".

then don't worry, someone might just do it for you!

Drunken... how very dare you.

How dare you suggest I was anything but drunk. :D
