is it possible?

My one and only drive on Polish roads (in W115 240d) was nightmarish. Unless Cracow has a motorway to the German border, no way would I even think about it.

If you already know it's in the future, why not start the return journey earlier ?

That is a Bloody Good Point.. and with enough notice.. I for one would fly out to keep you company.. lol..

RoadTrip 2 - Uncut!

erm.... what a bizzare suggestion.

How about because we can't?

This sounds like a Top Gear challenge, either way would have to be night time driving to be quiet enough to keep up 90mph average.... Good luck :D

Sorry but I think even contemplating such a drive is very irresponsible.

Krakow to Calais in 9 hours can not be done. No chance!

Its over 1400 kms and an avg speed of 140+ km/h is non-achivable. You still need to refuel and eat.

Krakow to Germany are all motorway now, nice and new but restricted to 120km/h on most parts, lower on others. It's also a toll road so frequent stops to pay. Loads of traffic, especially with HGV's.

Once you get to the Ruhr, it could be like driving into a wall of traffic. Holland is restricted and Belgium a total nightmare, especially around Antwerpen.

I would say min 13-16hours at high speeds.

Few words about the car
S600 1996
148kmi
Four new tyres dunlop sport maxx
Full aligment done at wheels in motion
Last month 4 new shockes (rear 800 quid )
No problem with suspension or brakes
Engine 190 psi on each cylinder(pulls like a train all the way till limiter kicks in:rock:)

Personally I think is mad but possible.
Krakow to German Border Motorway all the way restricted to 130km/h
overnight possible to achive 90 miles an hour average Safely.
Germany to France no speed limt at all (only few places)
With German line discipline 110 miles an hour should be possible maybe more.
The rest of the trip will have to be boring .
Hopefully we will not be dealing with traffic
Tom tom with live google update on board

German petrol will help to keep fuel consumption low Aral 102 octane.
Speeking about fuel how many miles to gallon we gonna get????
what do you think?

TBH it does sound a little extreme and risky, even for someone of my driving tastes.

Agreed. If it were a lets see if we can do it, then fine, you can minimise the risks and still have fun.

Having to do it in that time will probably drive the risk level a bit too high for my taste.

Not a cat in hell's chance I drive this part of the world down through Germany fairly regular, Krakow - Calais even caining it on the German Autobhan at night running 130 mph + the best you are ever going to do it in is between 11 - 12 hours IMHO Anything less would be dangerous and theres plenty of roadworks on the German Autobahns which will drop your average speed lower than you think, if you go for it all I'll say is good luck

Reckon you will be pushing your luck on that gig in 9 hours 12 hours min.

I once did Bilbao via Madrid to Marbella and it was motorway all the way and it took 7.5 hours, and we weren't exactly hanging around (not including stops for lunch). However there was practically no traffic aside from around Madrid. So what you are proposing is going to be a tall order IMHO

Have a safe trip better to arrive, than not at all :)

Actually Masakrer, it looks like I might have to bail on this... Forgot about the vvvv. (Its difficult to say). Ahem... Volvo at the airport. It'll be a right PITA retreiving it, extra parking fees etc etc.

I do think 9 hours is possible though depending on time of day and traffic. I did 500 miles in. a little over 3.5 hours across Germany in my little 230 124CE. That would leave 5.5 hours to do the remaining 300 miles which is a walk in the park.

How long did it take to drive down anyway?

Krakow - Calais is 900+ miles you would have to average over 100 mph all the way, with the roadworks on the German Autobahns you don't have a chance, even with it clear its still not possible

500 miles in 3.5 hours is an average of 142 mph (225 kmh)a 124CE 230 would not even do that speed flat out, I drive the German autobahn all the time between Frankfurt and Munich and the last time in an S65 touching speeds of 245 kmh (150mph+) you can't average 100 mph over distance.

Sorry just not possible.

Really? I disagree. I once did St Tropez to London (excluding the ferry) in under 10 hours. Croatia to Calais in under 13 hours.

How about LHR to Miltin Keynes and back in an hour? Ok, this one was a little extreme and on a motorcycle but it just goes to show that if you have a clear run, you can munch up huge distances in little time.

As for my 500 miles in 3.5 hours, well it was a few minutes over 3.5 hours but not by much. The old girl would hustle along at 135 (gps reading) quite hapilly.

St Tropez - london is only a 12 hour run at normal speeds I have done the south coast france sainte anne (near st Tropez) to Doncaster in 12 hours so not surprised by that at all but saint tropez london is < 800 miles not the distance you are talking to calais.

LHR - MK return in an hour easy on a bike

135mph in the CE is still not an average of 142mph 500 miles in 3.5 hours just can't be achieved in that car

Krakow - Calais in 9 hours for those that drive Europe regular as posted we all know it's impossible
