Is it too much to ask?

Can you post some photo's of the damage, perhaps that will help opinions

Why do you need to see damage?
The number plate has come off, the bumper is cracked, trim has fallen off...

The damage has nothing to do with what I'm asking.

The bodyshop is on the other side of London. The AA are giving me the hire car not mercedes. Which means
1) An hour long drive to mercedes
2) Train back
3) Go to local avis branch-again another hour journey
4) Pick my car up (train journey)
5) Return hire car
6) Train/Bus back.
That sheds a bit more light - I'd be asking the AA for the hire car to be delivered to the body shop as part of the deal. Last time someone hit the wife's car the insurance arranged for AVIS to deliver a hire care to the body shop - so it must be something AVIS are used to doing.

Not liking the answer to a question you asked is no reason to throw your toys out of the pram!

Can't MB pick your car up? Have the loan car delivered to your home / work whatever? Make it their problem, but nicely. I can understand how peed you are but right now you are lucky to have this problem. Chill.

Not liking an answer is one thing-which i can deal with
Being called a liar is just not happening.

How can I possibly be lucky to have this problem?

No ones calling you a liar, you asked a question and got an answer that you did not like. Don't see anyone calling you a liar.

So, where's the pics so we can see this damage and then form an opinion?

Judging by your description (The number plate has come off, the bumper is cracked, trim has fallen off...) it sounds like you're making a mountain out of a molehill, but a picture tells a thousand words

Good on the AA for taking it on the chin and doing the right thing I say. But I guess we all end up paying in the end when our premiums go up.

Taking it on the chin. Maybe they should train their patrols better. And no I don't want to spark a row now with all AA patrol(men). Most are very helpful and do go the extra mile.

Can no-one see why I p'eed? I told the guy, and he still messed things up!

Anyway, I'm bringing things to a close. I'm going to ask them to pay me direct, if not I'll ask for my car to be recovered to the Merc place and the hire car delivered (and picked up) to me.

Thanks for EVERYONE's reply.

Cool - let us know what happens

UPDATE: Well they've agreed to fix it, no problem. When I asked about paying me directly, they said no problem, although the hire car will be delivered to me and my car collected and returned.

Have to decide by monday.

I have tried tidying the front up for by sunday GTG, and it doesn't look too bad now that the trim and number plate is back on.

Thanks everyone (except scumbag :p )

If they collect your car and take it to the MB approved bodyshop, get it repaired and then return it to you, they are ensuring the money goes for the repair that has been quoted for and not paying it to you for you to use elsewhere. So this is really no different from their original suggestion is it?

yes

How is it different? You wanted to take the payout and be free to go elsewhere or to go to the MB approved place but at a later date.

It seems you mis-read.
You wrote: So this is really no different from their original suggestion is it?
I wrote: Yes.
Meaning: Yes, it is not different. [Except now things have been cleared up]

And no, I do not want to go elsewhere. The matter is now closed, as I am happy with both routes available to me.
The first being: MB collect my car, AA send me a hire car; my car is repaired and sent back to me, the hire car is picked up.
The second: They pay me, I get it fixed when service times comes.
