Is it worth getting ceramic coating from the dealership?

Is it worth getting ceramic coating from the dealership?

They're offering 995 for it on an EQS.
I’ve not heard of dealerships doing it , my first thought was that if preparation is the key to a good ceramic coat then I doubt they would be any good .
I would speak to a local detailer after establishing exactly what MB are planning .
Can the dealer show you other cars they have done ?

I can’t be sure what they are offering you but although cheaper for my GLA I fell for the dealers offer when I bought mine in March.
Very poor quality and I suspect more of a wipe over with a cloth.
If you are spending that kind of money go to a bespoke ceramic detailer.

I bought the kit from Carbon Collective for around £150 and it took around 2 hours to apply, at least I knew it was completely covered. Very easy to do and hard to get wrong.

Where I'm based, small cars start at around £250 for a machine polish and ceramic coating.
Done at your door, by a professional outfit.
My SLK, black, was £290 - 6 hours.
My C class coupe, silver, was £375 - 8 hours.
My A7, black, was £400 - 9 hours.
All guaranteed for 3 years.
All stunning.

Is this not a con and another name for applying for finance etc , I know Arnold Clarke do it ,as do Honda Durham. Sell you an auto glym package £500 , yeah right . Lifetime interior and exterior care package, yeah right !!! . Don't be fooled.

Agreed. 🙄👍

I would think for £1k you would have a lot of options from experienced detailers who have built up a great reputation

Well worth doing a bit of research on this as if you need any maintenance in the future (eg for a refinished panel or to polish out scratches) they can probably re-apply the product to the affected areas.

I paid less than this amount for a very large vehicle that was not new, and the detailer I used is very highly regarded and spent an entire week preparing the vehicle before application:

I can’t see a main dealer doing this sort of prep, and if they are just subbing the work out you can guarantee you’re paying over the odds anyway! :)

As in 40 hours machine and hand prep Will, or in his workshop for the week, doing bits when he can?
Difficult to make a living doing one vehicle a week for less than a grand I would have thought.
Considering buying snow, polish, pads, the ceramic itself with overheads, tax etc.

Specialist detailers are the best people to deliver this kind of service, which really has two parts:

the "correction" of the existing finishes and then the ceramic coating.

And, for a guy who really knows his stuff, and has his own site, you should be paying just over half that main dealer quote.

So, I'm saying "yes," but use a specialist rather than the main dealer.
