Just done my winter check up and noticed i had used about a quarter of a litre of oil in about two thousand miles. Car is w202 2.8 v6 with 150 k on the clock. cheers, tony. PS, engine has no oil leaks and is bone dry.

8000 miles per litre is not excessive, what has the previous oil consumption been like?

You might have a minor leak from somewhere that is not easy to see, if your car has an undertray fitted it might be worth removing it to check. Presumably no puff of smoke on starting?

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me especially on a car of that age and mileage. The thing to do is to check oil regularly and if ever that figure starts to change then you can start to investigate why.

Totally normal. The owners manual for the w124 (Same engine) states that the max engine oil consumption should be 1.5L per 1,000KM depending on driving style and environmental conditions, so I guess anything below that is within tolerance.

I'm sure you've seen the hundreds of posts about the m104, but there was a service bulletin recommending the max be fill to be the mid way point on the dip stick, so don't top it up to the full line.

Thanks chaps and i'm sure from what you say i have no issues. Definitely no oil under car and no puff of smoke when i start her up. I use fully synthetic oil and she just purrs along just fine and so sweetly.

Probably time to sell it then :D

1L/1000 miles is the limit
