My facelift W210 has exactly the same VIN plate under the bonnet, held by two philips screws and sprayed the car colour, so it looks OK. Check the other plate under the flap of carpet on the cross member under the front seat to be sure, but I don't reckon anybody's going to go to too much trouble to rip you off with a car that is only costing a grand.
