Make sure you have insurance!

Base fee for attendance of armco truck: €150
• Removing damaged armco: €10/metre (x2 or x3 or x4 for multiple-height sections)
• Replacement armco: €31/metre (x2 or x3 for double/triple height)
• Removing damaged armco posts: €5.10 each
• Replacing armco post: €39 each
• Safety car attendance: €82 per 30 mins (car + 2 people)
• Circuit closure: €1,350 per hour
• Recovery truck: €190 (inc VAT)
• Hospital stay & air ambulance: Let's just say, do NOT go there without travel insurance! (Though a European Health Card - which replaced the E111 - may cover the hospital bit.)
Everything except the recovery truck is then subject to 19% VAT.

Not including the air ambulance of course :eek::eek:

I know the value of the pound has dropped but is it really £5300 or is it $5300 or €5300?

Says $5300 dollars on the link so about £3684. The passenger and driver walked away so why was the air ambulance bought in anyway.

My mate crashed and all he got was a fine for speeding! Luckily the circuit was about to shut anyway and some one else crashed earlier round the track before him! Didn't have to pay for the recovery truck either.

A crash on the 'ring is always very expensive though, not least because most insurance doesn't cover you and you need to get home, probably without a vehicle.

THe charges above are about right. You get charged for cleaning the track, removing and replacing the armco and you have to be recovered by their ADAC truck which costs. Plus, as my mate found, chance of a visit from the Police too and another fine there.

You can't put a price on driver enjoyment and thrills, but for everything else there's mastercard???

Friend of mine wrecked his Subaru on the 'Ring last year. He's still paying for that day...!

Personally, I don't see the point - - but that's just me...

Fined for speeding on a race track? I'm going to buy some gatsos and put them up on every F1 track - I'll be RICH!!!

I saw this video on PH. I knew you have to pay for damage to the track, plus the clear up, attendees and track closure, but didn't realise you have to pay for the helicopter, too!
Car insurance wouldn't cover it, but surely a holiday insurance policy should cover you?

Considering your location, I guess it's not the same person, but when I went in October last year, a Welsh guy crashed his Silver Impreza while we were there.
Fortunately, it was just the car which bore the brunt of a high red'n'white curb :(

Unlikely - it would probably fall under the "prohibited activities" list. My policy (through work) specifically excludes the ring, along with speed trials, endurance trials, track events, etc

well, I guess that has to be expected, how else would the track owners recover their out of pocket expenses as well as the lost revenue for the track being shut.

A case of "You pay your money and take your choice.”

It's not a race track, it's a 'Toll Road' ;)

Correct.

Largely a 'derestricted toll road' which most insurance companies do not cover. It might not say 'Nurburgring' in the small print but that's what it means.

There are actually limits in two places I think, essentially entering and leaving the 'pits' or car park... However, my mate is actually proud of the ticket...

The cops turned up and told him straight away, 50 euro fine for speeding. We argued that there was no limit so how can he get fined for speeding?

The reply was very German and not to be argued against... "He is falling off [it was a bike]. Zerefore he is going too fast. Zerefore he is speeding. 50 Euro"

Faultless logic.

I saw a 13,000Euro crash a couple of years ago, plus the damage to the E46 M3. Ouch!!

So if you crash and die, do they sue your estate?

Things have changed a bit over the years at the ‘Ring!
Over 30 years ago, I spent a pre-race Saturday evening on a Monkey bike with a pot of paint marking ‘X’ and ‘O’ on the circuit to indicate to my F2 driver which places were ‘flat’ and which weren’t. About 10kms around we were chased off by the Feds….
The next day we won the race.:thumb:
Just 20 years ago we were testing a quick road car with Bridgestone who had the place exclusively. About 4.30 in the afternoon we had an oil line crack and the car spread oil for about 3kms down the hill from where the new circuit joins. There was no radio in the car, but it was spotted and recovered just as the circuit was opened to the public at 5pm. A whole flock of bikers took off down the hill just before the driver got back to report the problem.....
Ever watched 10 pin bowling?
Fortunately no body was hurt, but there were a few bent bikes!
We had a visit from the Feds again!:o
They agreed that it was the responsibility of the circuit to ensure that it was safe prior to opening it to the public. It seems that safety does not come cheap!
At least the authorities have proper communication around the circuit, if not access. That was one of the reasons that F1 did not race there after the Lauda accident.

Reminds me, another good friend took his IMMACULATE Nissan 300ZX twin turbo to the 'Ring about 4 years ago. Was having a whale of a time when....BANG! Hit another car and span and totally finished off his beautifully restored 300ZX. To me, it was a total waste, but he somehow thought the thrill was worth it!!! Hmmm.....

Maybe I'm just old and boring, but I like my cars to stay in good condition and if I really want a thrill, I'll hire a track day, complete with supplied, purpose built car! :D

My son crashed his GSXR there a couple of years ago, low sided it at 130mph, cost him over £600 in repair costs to the track and because the track had to be closed to recover him and his bike (which he brought home on the back of a trailer in bits!!!)

He was very lucky, he only suffered a broken collar bone, 4 broken ribs and smashed his front teeth . The painful bit was the repair costs and the fact his leathers had to be cut off him (£300!) and he'd only had his bike 6 months ouch.

Boys eh!
