I've bought a 2005 E500

Well if it's on a runway I guess the question is "can I get to the end of the runway before Chattonmill has managed to turn round and got back to the start?"

Or "can I get to the end of the runway before Chattonmill's wheel falls off?" I suppose

I have often wonderered if these are much quicker than the 320 CDI....what do you think?

I think you will be pleasantly surprised a second or two to 60 isnt that much:thumb:

Hmmmm Thanks for reminding me! I now have a torque wrench surgically attached to the car:wallbash:

I was chatting to my Indie a while ago whilst he regailed me with a story of an SL that had wheel wobble after being on a track, he told me they were prone to loosening wheel bolt at high temperature.......funny that I said, it would appear that the 55's do as well:o

Well... I've timed my 'Brabused' CLS320 CDI at a whisker under 6 secs 0-60 and seen 53mpg....although admittedly not both at the same time:o
The petrol V8 is turbine smooth, the 'wood burner' has sledge hammer grunt.
The 5.5 AMG has both. What floats your boat?:dk:

For the same price I could have had a pre-facelift 320cdi or a very high mile V6 diesel. But I very much doubt I'd have found one with this spec. It's basically AMG spec with a more sensible engine. If you can call a 5.0 V8 sensible.

I am a happy man. Three more years of V8-dom. That'll complete a decade :-)

Great car, well done. Exactly the same reason I bought my ML500. :thumb:

well done, good choice!

I've only tried a E280 CDI - I think it actually had more grunt from what felt like zero revs.

Chris Harris Brabused a V6 320 CDI and got down from low 8's to low 6's

So not a lot in it really.

Well, except the extra £6-7k I'd have had to spend to get a V6 320CDI in this spec.

Not worth it for me as I do low miles and have a petrol card - heh heh

388bhp (post facelifted 500) vs 230bhp (v6 Cdi). Yes. Beyond 5000rpm the V8 has a distinct power advantage. E500 has a smidgen more torque but at a higher RPM.

Through the mid ranges there won't be much in it and I suspect from 1500-2500rpm the diesel will have the edge.

Under 6secs is very good, I suspect thats the increased peak power working as there is a 100ft/lb gain

£6-7k is a lot of money, the car you have picked is perfect given your fuel card etc

I considered a E500 Estate when I struggled to find a V6 320 CDI Estate within my budget, but having two juicy petrol cars already decided to hang out for the diesel.

Had a IL6 CDI before which was quite grunty, but the V6 is faster and smoother.
Looks like you have bought a great car....enjoy

It should be great, Remember seeing one sold at Acution posted on the EVO site about a year ago, then shortly for sale privately... A great buy. I was tempted.

My Dad has a E320Cdi estate and an old boss had a E55 estate. The 55 blows the Cdi away, its silly how quick the speedo goes round!!!

I guess in the 'real' world the 500 is almost sensible, it should do 25 on a run maybe even up to 30 (dad also has a SL500 and gets 28) but also the parts should be much cheaper than an AMG car?

Nice car, post some pics

That was my logic. Having tooled around in C43's for seven years with 300-ish bhp and 300-ish lbs'ft of torque I though that was enough for me. The 500 has the same power and another 30 or so lbs/ft of torque.

The consumables (tyres, brakes, etc) should be usefully cheaper. Plus less insurance and less fuel. So a reasonable compromise.

Interestingly enough the previous owner has replaced the 500 with a fully specced E350D....
