but what on earth is a D service (other than probably VERY expensive). I have a 2003 S211 (E320 CDI estate) with 23,000 on the clock and its telling me I need a D service in about 1,000 miles.

Can anyone tell me what is inolved in this, and likely cost - will the next one be an A service again?

Thanks & regards

Matt.

The latest version of ASSYST (e.g. on the W203 or W211) categorises services even further than the previous versions (e.g. on the W202 or W210). The full list of service actions should be listed in the back of your service booklet, the book that gets stamped to prove your car's service history.

I'm afraid I haven't a clue as to what is involved with a 'D' service though, I just know that in my case that 'A' is a small service and 'B' makes my wallet have a nervous breakdown.

'D' sure does sound painful !!

Maybe it is a minor one for cars that cover a higher than average mileage ? Might just be a routine fluid change etc . . . (well, best to be optimistic 'eh ;))

If youve managed to go 23k without a service then there isnt much to complain about even if you do start approching the £500+ mark which im sure a D service will going by the £300 for the B service we have just had on our 211.

Learn the alphabet the MB way...

A is for ATYPICAL service
B is for BIG service
and D is for DEVASTATING service!

owned a 88 300sl for about 6 weeks now. it was due its 96k B service, and given it has a full MBSH i was keen to maintain it. took it down to a certain stealership in birmingham. After a quick look over the car he said he thought it was a car they had restored recently (which gave me the feeling he thought it was a solid car) then he said the service would be £450-£500 but he couldnt give me an exact figure, and that he could probably reccommend about £2k's worth of work to be done on the car!! He seemed quite keen to replace the radiator that has a few cracks on the little metal runners between the pipes, but it never leaks!! Decided to go with an independant merc specialist and feel like got good value and an honest approach!

Good for you, don't let them rip you off.At times I'am glad my car is too old for all this dealer service malarky.£2,000 of work I bet they wouldn't give you £2k more for your car if you were trading it in to them. It's daylight robbery no wonder they are nicknamed the stealership.

Matt.

Hope you never get to see this, but FYI ASSYST plus service indicators go up to H
