Jaguar XJ220 from gone in 60 seconds

Some interesting "facts" too.
The Jaguar XJ220, launched in the early 1990s, is considered the fastest production car in the world. With 542 horsepower on tap, the XJ220 blistered from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds and hurtled on to a record-breaking production car top speed of 217 mph (and though the McLaren F1 was later tested slightly faster, the XJ220 still holds the record, as the made-to-order McLaren is not considered a production car, but a custom vehicle).
In order for a car to be considered "the fastest production car in the world" it must actually be IN PRODUCTION. The Jaguar XJ220 is not currently in production and is therefore not the fastest production car. The clue is in the title :)

I dont care true or not I could sit and look at that all day. That body styling doesn't look a day old.

yip she sure is prrrrrrrrrddddiiieeeeeee

Pretty, but ridiculously large, they didn't nickname it the "flying bathtub" for nothing ;)

IIRC the chassis is based on an XJS :)

Awful cars, Ive been in one. cheap & crap build quality

Note the Vaxuhall Carton rear clusters

Lovely. Very special vehicle. I think one'd not bother too much about the build quality if they owned 1. Very particular kind of vehicle - another 'fault' is the lacklustre engine note. All part of the character (nice round the test bowl on Merc Racing as well...)

The XJ220 was not based on an XJ-S, the Aston Martin DB7 was.

The rear lights are Ford, as are many of the dash parts, there is nothing Vauxhal on the XJ220.

I agree the XJ220 was not a great success, the original design was a blown V12, with 4wd, and it turned out to be 2wd V6.

The engine was from a Metro!

bloomin eck!

nigh on £100,000 and the interior does look bloomin awful!!

Ah well, each to their own I guess!
:o

i agree with Thmsshaun about the styling, its a great looking machine but each to their own i suppose. wether the car is a bit duff is another story but there are definately other more subtle cars i would prefer to blow 100k on :)

I hope it is not this they are buying/bidding for, some dodgy sellers on there

Of further importance might be the fact that a highly photo-realistic 3D/CGI model of the XJ220 is available that will afford the director the flexibility to put the vehicle in situations and environments which might otherwise be cost prohibitive / too dangerous to obtain with the actual vehicle. This model, created by a high-end Visual Effects Post Production House, is detailed down to the multi-coated waxed and buffed paint surface, with defining maps as high as 10,000 lines of resolution, making this CG car virtually indistinguishable from the actual vehicle.

According to an Autocar mag about 1 year ago, the Lights are from a Vaxuhall Carton & were covered with vents.

Was thinking it I had heard they were Vauxhall light but then I think it was you who said then.

The engine was indeed out of a Metro.

Those lights are of a Rover 200/400, rather than a Carlton

But wasn't it this Metro that the engine came out of.

I wouldn't be very happy if it was actually out of that car - there's photographic evidence it has been thrashed!! :D

I believe it was based on the 6R4 engine though.
