Jensen Interceptor

They used Carter AFB/AVS carbs which are still sold today by Edelbrock . Nice carbs, I put them one on a 73 GMC pickup truck that I owned and on a Jaguar XJ5.3C that was previously converted to a small block. Woke both motors up.

It would appear that new emissions regulations in the states were effectively strangling these motors hence Jensen's move the larger bore engine? :dk:

Yep, that was a uniform move by the big 3 to address new EPA regulations. Chrysler went from the 383 to the 400. Chevy from the 396 to the 454 etc. Stock, the 440 in the Jensen made 250 hp (but piles of torque) . Rebuilding them to pre-70 spec with mild tuning (cams, exhaust and carbs) can easily squeeze 450hp at relative low cost.

I own a 73 and a 74 MK3, both with Chrysler 440 motors. They are waiting for me to get off my lazy butt and fix them. A buddy of mine is East Texas has a MK2 with a 383. I think that the 383 is a sweeter engine.

Is there anything we can do to help you get off your lazy butt Al...? :):)

There are a couple of cars in the pipe that I want to do first but I would like to get started on one of the Jensen's in 2017. Marks video with Jay Leno certainly has me more motivated.

I wish I was 20 years younger. I had all the energy in the world 20 years ago, not a penny in my pocket, but plenty of energy.

It looks more like an Alfa Montreal too...

In my eyes, if you cross a Jensen Interceptor with a Alfa Montreal you get an ISO Grifo.

Come on Al, 2017's not that far off and things are getting a little boring round here since Charles has virtually finished his. :)

Two of the cars in the pipe are a 69 Mercedes Benz 300SEL 6.3 and a 72 280CE with a 4 speed manual. Charles' resto is providing some motivation for me to get cracking on that.

Here's a picture of one of the Jensen's. It's the 73 and is probably the one I will keep.

It needs a lot of work , mostly to the interior and the engine. The engine not a huge deal as rebuilding a mopar in the US is pretty inexpensive. Interior is another story. Many cows need to die for the interior,

I've always loved Interceptors, the chap who lived opposite us had a beautiful white/dk blue leather interior one, ...and oh that burble!

Still always drawn to them at car shows. Beautiful Vignale body. :)

I always thought they were lovely looking things.

I've only driven one & was very disappointed. Reminded me of most of the '70's American cars I've driven - big, heavy, floaty, land yachty, with a vague feeling to it.
