Jumping out of gear

I was talking with a friend today , he has a E 270 cdi , 211 model .The car has a 6 speed manual transmission . When taking off in frist gear the car will jump out of gear unless the gear leaver is held to keep the car in gear . Has any one had similar problems , or give give me some pointers that I could relay back to the car owner .

Hey,

I have a 2003 CLK 270 CDI with a 6 speed manual. It has 130k miles on it and exactly the same symptoms as yours since around 50k miles. Intermittantly the car will jump out of 1st gear with a loud bang. Other than this the car is faultless. I have had it into the dealers twice and an independent and they cannot find any fault with it! I have been taking off in 2nd gear around town and there has been no problems. Would be interested in hearing any diagnosis if you can get one.
