How often to you guys and girls just fill up your cars and go for a drive.. for no reason.. just drive..

I went out on Saturday with Lorrie.. went out about 8pm, filled the car up and just went for a drive, didnt get home till about 11:30pm, and used up half a tank of fuel, but it was just really nice... :)

Used to when i was 17/18 .... traffic is so bad round here now , that going out from 8am to 10am is a no no , likewise from 3.30 to 7.00 pm ...

Nightmare ... took 20 minutes to get out of Sainsburys the other day . Just out of the car park .

I live in very quiet area of Cornwall.. when I leave from Lorrie's house in the morning, I can drive the 28 miles home without seeing a single car!!

More often than I should....

when I'm really stressed I fill the tank up, drive until:
- the reserve light comes on
- I have half a tank left of fuel
- I'm not so stressed anymore
(dependent on the night)

then drive back....

I've found myself knocking at a friends door (in Cardiff, and I live in London) this way more than once... I live very close to the M4 and up to a year or so ago there were no speed cameras... so at 1 or 2 in the morning it was a fantastic drive...

M.

Yup.

Only had three cars I ever did that with.

My first car - a Hillman Imp......a 1970 Lotus Elan and my current W203.

Seems a bit wasteful the price of fuel being what it is, but its still cheaper than a round of golf or going to a football match.

Don't do it all, even though i want to :(, the traffic is terrible where i live.

Instead i just go to the gym to relieve my stress.

Not really very often these days since Jr Dazzler came on the scene. In fact not at all!!

Yes, I sometimes take the SL out for fun when the weather's nice.

When i first bought the car i did it quite often, in the weekend usually. Nowadays its quite hard because of the area i live in... but i will go for a drive sometimes at like 2-3am for a cruise to london and back home... when its quiet its quite relaxing to drive through.

I used to when I had my Clio 172 and my Megane 225 / R26 but don't anymore, the Merc isn't the kind of car I drive just for fun.

It depends what I am driving, I went out for a drive last night at 11pm just for the sake of it, it was cold and damp but I hadn't used the M3 for a couple of days and just fancied it.

Wouldn't go out in the E320 just for a drive, that is a comfy work horse, not something that gets my pulse racing.
But it was the same with my 335i, quicker than the M3, but again it is a comfy autobahn mile muncher, it didn't shout "Drive me!".

That is why a C63 Estate is tempting but also why I am not sure I would get bored of it quickly.
Tempting because it could be used all the time and is the sort of car that makes you want to just go out for a drive, but at the same time whenever I have a car that does it all I tend to get bored, it becomes a work horse and no longer a thing of pleasure if that makes sense.
So after driving about in it all week the last thing I want to do is go out for a drive at the weekend.

That is why the cheaper E320 for everyday and the M3 for having fun in works well. Yeah I would love an E55 Estate instead of the E320, but the M3 would have to go and I think I would regret the move.

I'm with others, I use to....

With other cars, 205 Gti when I was in my teens and a MX5 after that.

Now Mini A210 is on the scene things like that change.

Saying that we do do track days on the weekend so I guess thats burning fuel for no real reason :) :)

i used to when i wasnt using the car so much for commuting. And also the price of fuel has put me off aswell.... and just too busy nowadays.

I still do it (when the ol' girl will co-operate) last time i went from my place down near the M25 up to yarmouth then back down to Margate and Brighton and back home again, at 20mpg though it dont happen as often as it used to. :(

A lot lately due to upcoming Chartered Accounting exams. I feel relaxed when i just go and drive.

When i am pretty stressed ( a lot lately) i just turn on the E320 and off i go with a warble. When i used to live in Northumberland i could go to the coast in Tynemouth on my favourite scenic route along the seafront. and just park up near the beach and watch the waves crashing etc.

In Leeds/Bradford i tend to stick to the greener pastures.

^^^^^No excuses guys.
I still love driving.
I went out in the SLK yesterday just to go for a drive
and although the bike gets taken off the road during the winter, at least 90% of my riding (actually probably 80% to be honest) is spent going nowhere.

Other things I have done - just to do it.
Rode my motorbike all night
Driven my Corrado to Saxa Vord. (Company paid ferries/fuel)
Ridden to Arnamurchan point
Ridden to Duncansby head
Driven to Nijmegen (could have flown/taxi)
driven from Milan to Rome (could have flown)
etc etc.
Had a bike licence on my sixteenth birthday, and a car licence on my seventeenth, and STILL get excited about a long drive.

Being new to cars for many a year it's costing me a small fortune as I'm taking the long way round for every trip:rolleyes:

I used to when I had more powerful car.

When I get an AMG I probably will go for blasts around the counrtyside.

I love doing this in the SL...

Its just one of those cars.. find a country lane and just go until you dont recognise anything...and then just keep going...

I think its been over a year though now..

It seems that any spare time I have is spent maintaining my cars.. annual fluid changes just come around too quick!

Wife and I do this all the time. A few hours, just driving around.
