Just went to tesco's for a sandwich and as i was driving out the car in front suddenly had to brake to avoid crashing with a bus that pulled out without indication!

BANG!

my car hit his and the bus was away!

I have swapped details with the elderly couple that I hit and have faxed the bus company asking for insurance details.

Where do i stand?

Alone, I'm afraid!:(
There are very few ways of being in the right if you run into the back of someone. Unless you were hit from behind....

With the details above i'm a little confused it the bus was not involved in the accident (i.e nothing hit the bus or the bus did not hit another vehicle) what has it got to do with the bus company's insurance?

Maybe I've missed something here?

Sorry to hear about this though, always annoying when this sort of thing happens.

The bus co more than likely carries it's own Ins, in any event, despite the fact that he may have driven badly, but I think you may find that it is your responsibility to be in a position to stop safely.

The bus pulled out infront of the car without indication, i think the guy in front has clipped the bus.

I know it will probably come off my insurance, but thats what insurance is for!

If he touch the bus he can claim to the bus company and so can you.If not, then you`re on your own

Unfortunately your on your own, the insurance will say;
you were to close to the car in front if you were a safe distance you would of been able to stop in time.

As above, it makes a big difference if the car in front of you hit the bus.

Otherwise you are 100% to blame as far as insurance etc. is concerned.

yes whether the other guy hit the bus or not, you were too close to the guy you hit to stop in time. unless the bus pushed the other guy into you....

Sorry to hear the news but as the others have said, it does not really matter what was going on in front; you were either travelling to close or driving too fast or not paying sufficient attention to stop in time. Unfortunately this one will be down to you.

Sorry to hear that, hopefully not too much damage ecept your pride maybe!

Unfortunatley the highway code makes provision for buses to be able to pull out. I know that bus drivers have a duty to make sure it is safe to do so but I think you will have a hard time proving anything.

All what you have said is what i thought!

Never mind!

The other driver just rang me to say they had no insurance and what was i going to do abouth the damage to their car! I laughed and I would be doing nothing

Ring the police...or...use this as a bargaining chip. They could pay for your car...:devil: Jammy beggar...

Knu7s - unfortunately if they are not insured they can still claim against you. However it would be foolish for them to admit that they were driving without insurance...

Police need to be involved in my opinion. Unfortunately I think you'll find that you're responsible for hitting them.

What a result!

Hope you've reported it to the police.

Although thinking about it what would the other driver's position be. I assume that even though they are uninsured they 'may' be able to claim off your insurance?

Looks like everyone else beat me to it!

Involve the police and your insurers...
