Just picked my car up....a few questions!

Picked my car up this afternoon (02 E320 CDI estate) from Bristol and drove back to Plymouth and have to say Im chuffed to bits with it. It actually drives better than my 09 CLK 320 I had a few weeks ago, at least it steers straight!

Anyway, Ive got a couple of questions for you all:

1) The rear wiper isn't working, the washer is so Im assuming its not the switch and its the motor. How difficult is it to get to the motor?

2) When idling along in traffic, the auto box is really nice, but when you come to a complete halt, the engine revs up slightly and is noticeably more nosiy when held on the brake. Also, when you release the brake, the car almost launches forward. Is this right?

Thanks in anticipation.

1) Just need to remove the panelling in the boot.
2) No its not normal on your car. Id start with a good gearbox service.

1) Sounds easy
2) Sounds worrying! Is there much that can be done except changing the oil? Its got FMSH and nothing has been noted on the previous service sheets.

The rear wiper blade on my yr 2000 E320 CDI estate, didn't work either when I got the the car. It was just sticking and would work if I gave it some help. I just changed the wiper blade and it doesn't stick any more

Tried that this afternoon to no avail, so Ive stripped the motor out and it looks like its seized up, so Im soaking it overnight and I'll have a go at it in the morning. Only problem is Ive smashed the plastic water sprayer but Im hoping i can get this as a part to replace it, its a long thinghy that inserts through the shaft of the motor.

Its funny how far ppl go for cars. I picked mine in Reading.

What spec is yours?

Rear wiper could be a number of things.

Check the orange 40A fuse under rear seats.
It could be the switch itself - three switches together on one unit (wiper - Hazards -Locking IIRC) You'll need to remove the radio to access this.

Check if there is power to the motor itself.

If you've dismantled the motor, pack with grease before reassembly.

no you cannot get it seperately, complete new motor needed.. but its not that expensive.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Stripped the motor and its completely seized, took the motor itself out and that still spins so i have got a feed to it. On the lookout for a replacement one now, who do people you on here for parts?

BlackC55 - It would appear the thottle is ok, it only rises in revs once your foot is firmly on the brake, and also in neutral it tooks over at about 800rpm. Im now flicking it into neutral when I pull up, this won't hurt until I get it to Mercare on Tuesday will it?

I actually bought it from a guy in Port Talbot but agreed to meet me in Bristol to save another 3 hour each way journey when I picked it up. There wasn't much down this way to choose from except for a couple without history.

I opted for this one as it wasn't massively spec'd after I read a few stories about the electric on these cars, but have to say, except for the rear wiper, and an intermittent fault with the CD changer, everthing works! More than I can say compared to my 09 CLK! Will try and get a few photos of it if anyones interested.

Managed to locate a wiper from breakeryard.com which should arrive tomorrow, £52 inc next day dleivery so chuffed with that.

Just need to sort the gearbox issue now, probably not such an easy fix!

Have you checked to make sure that the trottle cable hasn'r been overly adjusted and thus not letting the engine idle correctly.
Also check to make sure that the bung around the cable is firmly pressed into the bulkhead, as this can also cause the peddle to stick slightly.

Not good news.....been told its the torque converter!! How much? Any ideas? Help!!!

Torque Converters are about £1k. Have you had the oil changed yet? Looks like you might have the dreaded Valeo radiator problem!

I thought the 211's didn't have a throttle cable - believe they were electronic fly-by-wire? Maybe there is a cable in the engine compartment.....

As it's an 02 estate, then I'd presume it's a W210 and therefore not affected by the valeo/W211 issue.

Yes its a 210. The question is do I also need to replace the gearbox at the same time. Is it worth the effort to replace the TC to find the gearbox is shot?
