w211 2002 E270CDI Key fob not working

Hi to all,I have a problem with my E270cdi (W211) 2002 avantegard key fob.Initially it would open the car from a distance and this distance got shorter and shorter untill eventually the fob wont work. Now once the car is locked, you cannot unlock it via the key fob. You have to manually unlock it, and so the alarm goes off untill you insert fob into ignition. Car starts fine and no warning lights , once I press the buttons on the centre console to unlock all doors i can then use the boot lid button on the door. When i set off central locking locks as normal after a few yards. The fob will work after the pressing of console buttons ref=locking but once parked i can just about central lock the car with the fob but within 5mins cannot reopen with fob, only manually as above. Also tried leaving car unlocked overnight and which sorts alarm going off at 5am but fob wont lock the car untill ive put fob in ignition and used the centre console locking / unlocking buttons, and then I'm back to above problem.. I have read somewhere that flanaia1 sourced them at main dealers in yorkshire for aprox £160?? and that BlackC55 was looking into doing them , anyone else have any ideas on price for new key I would be grateful.
ps my fob seemed to be stuck slightly when trying to remove it , about twice this has happenned , dont think this was after a journey, only on initial stopping alarm as above scenario?? thanks in advance everyone.

Forgive me for stating the obvious. I presume you've tried new batteries?

If you do need a new remote fob and if it's 3 button like this

They are £227 from the dealers and you should get the new one like this

Thank you for that , I didnt realise you could replace the batteries, as unit seems sealed, presumed had to change the whole unit, probably much cheaper even from main dealer? I have only one key so might be good idea to price a unit also. Thanks very much for input.
ps yes its the same fob as 1st picture thank you, I see the price for unit thank you, pictures uploaded after my initial response

OK, New batteries is paramount and will probably cure your problem.
The batteries are available from most motor factors, i.e. Halfords, etc.

Click on the following link for help and instructions how to do it. If you have any doubt I'm sure the motor factor staff will be able to change them for you.

Usually two batteries and they cost between £4 - £6 depending on the type.

Don't be tempted to buy a spare/replacement key from ebay or other similar sources, they won't work. Main dealer only for these. You will need to show them the V5 (registration document) personal ID (passport, driving licence, or similar) and a utility bill. Takes about 5 working days for them to get a spare and it will work immediately in your car without them doing any further programming.

Thank you very much , changed batteries as per link = problem solved. I feel a little bit of a fool as I'd gone off what someone told me that the fobs were sealed and needed a complete fob. However as I have only one key it makes sense to invest in another as per above quote .

Just bought an S class 320. Test drive was fine but remote key fob was intermittent when opening and closing doors. Now I cant get in the car!! Its the latest key fob type so I changed the batteries as suggested by others, still no success. I removed the key from the fob and tried it. It turns 90 deg clockwise but door does not release. Any ideas please what to try next?

What year is the car?

Point the remote fob 2 mm from sensor in door handle and try to lock/unlock and tell us what happens. The car should unlock from a distance of about 50 feet.
