W211, I have 2 key fobs, one old black one and a new type chrome one. The range on the chrome one is very bad. Batteries ok, as replaced. Any ideas why the old style has a really good range and the chrome one I have to be next to the car.

I like using the chrome one as it's in a lot better condition than the old black one who's buttons are split etc.

Any help ideas, welcome just looked and I can't swap the internals over.

Is the Chrome fob original MB, or an aftermarket unit?

Also, you can by a Chrome MB fob shell off eBay that is comoatible with you old fob and then transfer the internals from your old black fob, but quality can vary so if you want a nice looking one it is best to buy from a source recommended by others.

How do I tell if it's an original MB one, it can't with the car. Thanks

On the bottom of the key that goes into the ignition it has the number 358 9145.
Is this the mb part number ?
