Key Problems and Now Car Won't Start!

So we went to use the car this morning - which we have been experiencing no problems with so far (bliss!) to find that when we pressed the open button on the key, the car wouldn't unlock. Since we were in a rush we decided to open and start the car manually. When we opened the door, the alarm started going, which we couldn't switch off with the button on the dashboard. So, we stuck the key in, and eventually the alarm stopped. However, now when we turn the key, the car just lights up (dashboard) but the engine won't start - there's just a weird clicking sound.

Any ideas?????????
