It sounds as though one of the tumblers in the lock has jammed .
As Nick says , it might be easier sorted with the lock removed from the car - all you can do with it still in the door is to keep 'jiggling' the key in the hope it will come out - there can be a knack to jiggliing keys in locks , so it can be worth persevering , up to a point .
At least your key is turning - on some models the lock can only be removed with the key turned 90 degrees from rest .
If you can get some proper graphite lock lubricant ( NOT WD40 ) and can squirt some into the key slot alongside the key blade , it may help .
Otherwise , removing the lock and completely immersing in WD40 , which will clean out , but de-lube the lock , followed essentially by re-lubing the lock with graphite before it seizes .
If you don't fancy messing with it yourself , and you have another key to drive the car with , you could always take it to a proper locksmith .
