Key update

OK I have spoken with Whitefield Mercedes this afternoon about this and they assure me (or my money back) that a replacement key for my car would be the chrome style and would be coded for keyless go at no extra cost.

Mine is keyless go, and has two '25 batteries :dk:

That's interesting. What year is the car and is the key original?

All non keyless go keys have 2 batteries, that's for sure and I've changed batteries in 3 cars that have keyless go and they have all had just 1 but they are old style keys for 2003/2004 cars.

How on earth do they justify £200+ for a key??? It's a bit of plastic and a pcb lol

I used this company Mercedes key specialists- Need new Mercedes keys? Replacementmercedeskeys.co.uk

Cheapest option around to get your hands on a new style chrome key if thats your bag. However its £170 as the boards cant be swapped out so you have to pay to play im afraid.

I rang the man that runs the above service. Firstly they do provide a new key, but you have to go to their office in Birmingham to have it programmed as they need the car to be there (unless they happen to be doing any work in your area). As it's a 250 mile round trip for me it's not worth it. I also asked about buying a second hand key and having him program it. Keys go for around £50+ and he wanted £100 to program it, plus he said it may not even work when programmed so not advised to go down this route.

The main dealer in Sheffield quoted me £220 and explained that the key comes direct from the MB factory in Germany and is pre-programmed at the factory based on the VIN number.

My keyless go key uses 2 batteries, W211 2004.

Both of my keys are the same (originals).

Hi all, new to the mbclub.

I know this thread is a couple of months old, but....

Does anyone know if you can use the internals from the old black key in the newer chrome key, lets say if I bought a second hand one of fleebay, took the existing internals out and replaced with the internals from the original old black one.
Would this work?

TIA

No

You can transfer the chip onto the 2nd hand crome fob (not the latest crome fob though). I have done this in the past, dog68 (a forum member) does this at a decent price.
