I have 2 keys, an old style one and a new style one. The old one works every time but the buttons on the outside are tatty, in the new one I have replaced the batteries, but it seems to be hit and miss if it locks or unlocks the doors.
It does work better if I hold the key with the back to front with the removable key pointing to the door.
Any ideas people, thanks.

Hold it touching your temple then press!

50% extra range FOC! :thumb:

I find it holding it on your chin and extending your right arm gives over 500 meters of range. This was always used on the apprentices at work, they did look silly in the carpark.

On a serious note I have googled it, and the FM radio to work ok with no interference.

Is it possible to program these keys manually, as i would like to try that.

It does work...but you don't have to extend your arm.

I have only just bought the car, therefore I am not sure if the new style key came from MB, does it matter? are there pattern parts on the market for these ?

Mercedes keys are whole different ball game. While there are a few (very few) alternative companies who claim to be able to supply these, I have no idea about the reliability of them. There are plenty of posts in the forums here regarding the subject, just search for replacement key. You will also find the details of the alternative companies who claim to be able to supply these in some of the posts. There are also plenty advertised on fleabay, but they are not programmed and the metal blade isn't cut so they are pretty useless. Mercedes wont programme customer blank keys and I don't know if anyone else will.
I had to buy a spare key (car only came with 1) and I took the advice of members here and ordered from a main dealer, as I didn't want to risk being stranded if my only key got lost or failed. A genuine Mercedes 3 button fob from a main dealer is £227, inc VAT and a new metal blade.
If you have a digital camera, point the key at it and look (through the camera) for a light emitting from the end of the key when you press the buttons.

Cheers grumpy, checked with phone camera, both keys producing the same amount of ' white ' light. The key works sometimes, and sometimes it doesnt. It just looks smarter than the tatty old one with creased up buttons.

Any more suggestions gladly welcomed
