Just had a new spare key collected from MB parts, the man just checked the buttons on the fob, locking, unlocking but I thought it comes already programmed with keylessGo
to my surprice when I got home I try to start the engine in IC display KEY NOT DETECTED.
Is the key needed to be paired with the car, can I do that with my STAR or the dealer use a diferent machine.

I think you are going to need one of the much sought after 'Green' keys to do the programming. Richard will know more on this.

I would have expected a new key from MB to keyless-go "ready"

Isn't a keyless-go key different (internal components rather than external appearance) to a non keyless-go key?

An MB key fob is orderd to chassis, to initialize it you simply insert the key fob into the ignition. The key fob lights up for a few seconds and when it goes out its done!

Keys are orderd with or with out keyless-go feature, make sure they have orderd you the right one.

if the key is the right one then book it into a main dealer with ALL your keys for a diagnostic

hope this helps

Mercmate,

When you get the new key from MB, does this mean it will not open the doors until its been in the ignition switch ? Or is it really a fully functioning key that can be used to steal the car?

Also, does a KG key behave any differently to a normal key in terms of being enabled ?

I presume Hercules probably ought be having his old keys (if lost) disabled ..

For security I liked the old green key mechanism, but they seem to have stopped that some time ago - presumably because they kept losing green keys ?

I Mercmate,

You said key has got to be initialized by inserting key fob in ignition SW, but in my case the ignition SW has got a button START, STOP.

The key was ordered to chassis, they took copies of V5 doc and ID.

They charge a lot of money for the key and they should not allow me to walk away without sincronizing the key to the car.

Key was ordered by chassis therefore they know it has got keylessGo and not only that I told the part man before I ordered.

But when I phoned back today he told me that he was not aware about the syncronization.

Then he spoke to someone from service and he was told that the car can only accept two keys and if one of them is lost, then that key has to be disabled for the CU to accept the new key.

I,m not very please about this, I will speack to the Service Manager first think tomorrow morning and I will make a complaint if I have to, the key is useless to me if I can not start the car,

at the end of the day they are the one who think they are genious but they are crupp, they shoul have not let me walk away with a non fully functional KEY:crazy:  :wallbash:

On the w164 the keyless go start/stop button comes out to reveal a normal key slot

THANKS to Richard and Mercmate,

I did not know that the start/stop button can come out.

Removed the button, inserted the key, LED on key light up for 1sec and it is

done.

So MB in Germany did the right work there by having prouf of ownership docs

It is all ours MB dealers do not have a clue what and how to do it and it is

thanks to a great forum like this who passes tips and ideas to help each

others. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :)

I would still have the lost key disabled by someone with star though

Richard
