As per title.

Mrs. Gaz is considering buying one as one of our friends bought one before Xmas and now her sister's just bought one. Both have had previous e-book Kindles (as does the wife) and they seem to rate them highly.

I'm unconvinced as I see the Kindle just as a way for Amazon to sell content (and indeed Amazon are fairly up-front about this), rather than being a proper computing device.

So, does anyone have one? Can you do anything with it other than fill Amazon's pockets? At least they're cheap for the specs - and currently the 7" models are £30 off at Tesco at the moment, making them even more attractively priced.

Any thoughts welcome!

Cheers,

Gaz

My wife and youngest son had them for Christmas, wife thinks hers is fabulous but apparently not as good as she'd hoped for reading in bright sunlight, son just thinks it's brilliant.

Well the Mrs. will be keeping her old Kindle for reading on holiday etc. so the daylight reading thing shouldn't be an issue.

The Fire has things like music and movie players built in - have you tried transferring any content across onto the device? I know this sort of thing will fall down to me, and TBH if it means I don't have to listen to her Bob Dylan collection then it's time well spent ;). Just wondering if that's possible or if Amazon have put a bunch of pitfalls in the way.

The alternative to the Kindle is a Nexus 7, which I'm sure can do all this kind of stuff without much trouble as it's running full-fat Android, as opposed to the Mojito OS on the Kindle..

Cheers,

Gaz

SWMBO & 2 sons have Nexus 7 and are happy with them.

What about Tesco Hudl
I understand that with clubcard & vouchers they can be bought around £70
