Long story short and not a thread about the validity of aftermarket warranties.

As part of the deal on my recent purchase I negotiated an extra 6 months Warrantywise warranty.

Because it was a deal sweetner the cost was borne by the dealer (not a MB dealer I should say, but a Volvo main dealer with a Sytner specialist vehicles section).

When the paperwork arrived I checked the detail only find that the labour rate offered was £36.00/hour plus VAT.

A few emails later and the salesman agreed to get the policy labour rates altered to £110.00 (incl VAT).

Check those policy documents guys.

Tis one to watch, but you do not think MB UK pay £110 an hour on warrenty work surely?

It would be interesting to know how low the dealers will go on this. Fairly sure that they would not want to tell though!

Completely off-topic but can you post some pictures of the CB1100?

No aftermarket warranty company will pay main dealer labour rates. I had to have a diagnostic done on my E55 a few years ago and I had to negotiate with the warranty company to try to get them to pay for it. They ended up paying £60 per hour and I had to pay the rest.

You were lucky to get them to agree to that, well done.

Warranty Direct will - if you ask, and pay for, that level of cover.

+1 from me :thumb:

I had a couple of CB900's in the past (an FB and an F2C) so it'll bring back memories :)

+1, we had Warranty Direct cover on our W203 and it covered up to £110 or £120 / hr. We used it too:)

The other good one is "covers everything" which is great but "max £2000 claim" so if the engine goes it is worthless really as you want a warrenty to cover the costs. Had a good argument with a salesman on this once, looked like I'd kicked him in the nuts when I called him on it.

Hello- Just reading this intresting thread and was curious, I am about to pick up my car on Sunday, which is a 2001 SLK 2300 and have been given a 6 month warranty. (Insurance type) The car is from a Mazda main dealer who says that the warranty is very good and will cover up to £1000.00 / claim and total claims not exceeding the cost paid for the car.

This warranty can be extended- £99.00 takes it to a year, £269 takes it to 2 year, and £389 to 3 years.

The car has just had a B service with all Mercedes o/e parts and the gearbox oil changed by a specialist. The engine is low miles (39,000) and has a full MB history. Do you think its worth going for the extra long warranty? My thoughts werent really about engines or gearboxes going bang (I have seen some very high mile cars around)- more to do with alternator, starter, A/C or roof electrics etc. All which are apparently covered by the warranty. I'm not sure how much these parts cost to get replaced or if there are any faults that these cars can suffer. Maybe £389.00 could be money well spent.

As this is my first Merc, any advice or thoughts would be welcomed

Thanks!
Chris

My WD says Franchise Dealer Rate for the W221 for £ 775.00 per year and on the CL i have the Indie rate at £ 60.00 as Olly is looking after the CL and Brooklands are looking after the S-Class

£1000 max per claim...is pretty mean IMHO.

Just thoughts - how long are you planning to keep it? If it's 2yrs, then you could be unlucky and have all sorts of costs that wil make that 2 years ownership expensive.

If it's 10 years, then a few things going wrong can be averaged out over the length of time you own it.

I think the biggest snag with warranties generally is that you need a black and white failure to get a payout - "it's making a funny noise" won't get you anything, and, on an older car, a lot will be put down to wear & tear.

Just to mention that i have just had the A/C condenser go on the CL and WD passed the work after a phone call from my local A/C man. £640.00 The only thing i have to pay is the £50.00 excess and the drier £67.00

WD maximum claim is the value of the car

Very impressed so far.
