mercedes benz CLK230 Kompressor
Ocassionaly when i am cruising along and i put my foot down i feel that my car is holding back. It's a CLK 230 kompressorm, i have it serviced regularly and the oil changed every 3000 KM. The dealer can't find anything wrong with it but i am not so sure, i live in kuwait so could it possibly be the heat or something? I have no clue so maybe you guys know. Cheers:rock: :bannana:

It could be that the incoming air temperature is so high that the intercooler can't cool it sufficiently so there is less mass of air injested into the cylinders. Also it could be the Mass Air Sensor is breaking down.

Does it lag and then go?

I have read Kompressors can suffer from air turbulence. The only sort of lag I believe superchargers suffer from.

The heat may affect this and your intercooler may not be coping so well.

You may need a water cooled intercooler or water injection like fitted on Ford Cosworths etc to cool the air charge thats if the supercharger works like a turbo charger, I really am not sure.

Cheers for that, I just had the air mass sensor changed because it broke once already. Is there a bigger or better intercooler i can get. Is there a company that any of you guys would recommend.

I have e-mailed these people for a quote for an upgraded intercooler:

Allard Turbo Sport

Oh cheers mate that is greatly appreciated. Its hard to get good support from the stealer here because they really don t know what they are talking about.

They dont think they can fit a bigger intercooler into the C250 but they said leave the car and a cheque with them for a week and they would see what they could do!

I bet they did!

I would be surprised if Allards intercoolers were as efficient as your own anyway given thet the MB ones are multilayer high efficiency ones.

Just a thought why not try one from an E300. It will probably fit and should be uprated for the extra 500cc.

Before you fit a new intercooler it would be worth doing a few mods yourself. Wrap the ehaust manifold and turbo with exhaust insulation bandage, then remove the compressor housing and sand it smooth and then polish it until shiny.

The bandage will keep the exhaust gasses hot so will evacuate the cylinders better and also the expanded gas will drive the turbo harder forcing more air in.

The inlet side will benefit from the polish because the turbulance inside the housing reduces the flow of fresh air.

I think you may see a couple of PSI extra boost as a result, and as more air will flow through the cylinders they should stay cooler.
I know i've mentioned this before but it should work and for very little outlay.

Thanks again Dieselman,

I see the logic in your thinking and am sure it would work, I did a similiar thing with an old MKII Escort, polished all the inlet ports and matched the inlet manifold to the block by removing the 'humps' where the two join.

I like things to look OE and even though people dont see under the bonnet I wouldnt want it to look all bandaged up. I thought an intercooler upgrade would be a simple bolt on job. I must admit mine does look like it has seen better days, there are numerous bent fins due to stones and flies hitting it. I have had a look from underneath whilst on the ramp and there is physically no room to fit a bigger one in.

Just have to be content with what I have, which basically I am but I heard that an intercooler upgrade can gain another 40bhp in the likes of Discovery TDi's and similiar.
