Laptop Memory Problems

Virtually empty D: in that case.

Should be a case of moving your iTunes to D: and you shouldn't need to do anything else as C: will then have enough room.

I know how I would be moving my iTunes library if I had one but not sure if anyone on here has the official way of doing it?

Personally, I would be saving all the music off from the subfolder under the iTunes installation, removing iTunes, downloading latest version and installing on D:, and then 'IMPORTING' the music in from where I had backed the music files up to - then re-sync will Apple devices...

IMO, you don't need to do anything else unless the computer runs like crap currently.

I would have thought the final partition would be 8GB or thereabouts for the rescue media.

There will be a 4th tiny partition but that is not important here.

1 x 56Gb and one 46Gb partition plus the boot partition should effectively fill a 120 gig hard drive, 'E' should be an optical drive?

Windows puts everything on 'C' drive by default, you may have programs that windows cannot delete due to losing installation paths - you said you had trouble un-installing things?.
For ordinary data files -films, music or whatever you can just drag the folder into the 'D' drive - or cut/paste etc - but iTunes is more complicated. Don't use it myself so can't help there!

cheers

So are we basically saying that I need to move iTunes from 'C drive' to 'D drive'?

Uninstallation is probably not possible due to C: being full.

This may be a case of removing some stuff of C: so that programs can be uninstalled.

Sort of backwards and forwards out of a tight parking space if you will.

To clear some immediate space, go into C: so you can see all the subfolders.

Go to each of the following places respectively and delete everything in there:

C:\Users\<YOURUSERNAME>\AppData\Local\Temp\
C:\Windows\Temp

Yes, but unless anyone else posts up - you will probably need to do it the way I suggested.

Ensure you back it up first (it is a good idea to have a backup of it anyway).

You definitely need to move or delete some stuff off 'C'!

Run 'disk cleanup' to lose temporary files etc

Delete files using Disk Cleanup

Apart from iT, any other music, films, photos etc could be moved on to 'D', this and un-installing any programs that can be dumped should leave room for iT, but it's still only a small drive for storage.
If you run out of space, an external hard drive might be money better spent even than a RAM upgrade...

iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

cheers

I'm currently copying iT to D:. *I think*

I'll report back as soon as its done.

Using the link above, I've copied iTunes to the D: file which leads me to instruction 11.

I just need to work out how to delete it from C: file now, it says locate the original iTunes media folder and drag it to the recycling bin. But I can't seem to find the 'original'.

I'll keep looking, I'm so close I can almost taste it...

Hallelujah!!!! I've done it!

Thank you all ever so much, if I could ever repay the favour please just ask.

What a forum, eh? :bannana: :bannana:

Glad you got there!

You shouldn't actually need to do anything now for a while and if your D: fills up, it wont cause you any system issues - just means you wont be able to fit on any more media.

However, depending on how much of you D: is free, this may take a long time...

The most nervous bit is when it tells you to put iTunes media in the recycling bin and if XYZ doesn't work, you recover it from there.

When I did it though, it said the file is too large for the bin so it can only completely delete it...

After about 5 minutes of faffing, I thought funk it, what's the worse that could happen and it worked out for the best.

Thanks a lot for your help John, I genuinelly mean that as well. I've got the patience of a bull with a hard-on when I need to get something done and I thought all of you that guided me showed great patience.

Thanks again.
