Went down for the Le Mans Classic with a good bunch of like minded petrol heads. Took the Missus and our Niece and planned to take the Brabus. On Tuesday with some help from a friend I changed the front brake pads for a harder compound and blead the brakes filling the system with AP600 racing brake fluid. Unfortunately on Thursday morning the brake pedal was almost on the floor. Looks like the brake master cylinder has gone. So un pack the S Class and loaded everything into the pick up truck.
We all had a fantastic time and saw 144mph on the gps sat nav (not bad for a pick up truck) and got to drive one of the guys pride and joy. On Friday night I took a mates Murcielago for a spin, then my niece wanted me to take her for a spin in another mates Testarossa which she loved and then finally Kerry says take me for a spin in Chris's car. Well if you don't ask you don't get. "Chris. Kerry's asked me if I can take her for a spin in your car." Chris handed me the key and all the guys were shocked. I'm thinking there has to be more to this than just a key. Unlocked the door and one of the other guys Richard reminded me about the battery cut out switch. We popped the bonnet and flicked it on. Unlocked the door for Kerry (no central locking), put the key in the ignition and turned the key, pushed the start button. Now how the hell do you find reverse, it has a paddle shift only gear change. Flicked the paddles up and down and eventually pushed the aluminium button marked R on the steering wheel. The gear indicator showed R. Now having driven Smart Cars for many years I new everything was looking good. Very gently squeezed the throttle and we were moving in the direction of travel that we needed to go. Pulled the right hand paddle towards me and with first gear selected off we went.
We were only on taking it for a spin on an A road but it is by far the fastest thing I have ever driven. The acceleration is phenominal, the noise is the nearest thing you can get to a Formula 1 and the brakes, it stops on a threepence. The acceleration scared the c**p out of Kerry. She's been in some fast cars that put your stomach into your chest but this puts your stomach into your throat and immediately. Well I want one but even if I sell all of may cars and the missus I reckon I can just about afford the bit from the front of the nose up to the windscreen. A massive thanks to Chris for having the confidence in me and allowing me to drive his car. Or was it that he thought that we would not be able to work out how to get the thing going. The guys said the look on his face was an absolute picture when he walked out to the front of the hotel and saw that his car had gone.
