Releasing rusted disc & pad after washing

šŸ‘†šŸ¼This is something I always (when I rememberšŸ˜‚) do just after a wash, leaving the car for long periods of time or after taking it for a blast and returning home with piping hot discs.

Select park. When the park brake automatically applies, open your door, manually release the park brake and get out. The reason I say open the door is that if you manually release the park brake, then open your door, the park brake applies again as a safety feature.

Good to hear you have it sorted Rob.
Thank you. I actually left the handbrake off, but the rust still stuck the pads and discs together. Ironically the fronts were the worst, the NSF being the worst offender.

PS This was a car we have in common šŸ˜‰

Earlier today - or yesterday - I finally pulled the trigger on the handheld turbo jet type fan. There are lots available with slightly different designs and specifications, and Iā€™ve been looking at them for months but the bewildering choice and suspicious nature was holding me back.

I had thought it would be useful for drying the car and caravan, but also clearing leaves from scuttles, debris from wiper blades, and keeping drain holes clear (although I have a pipe cleaner for that. I have previously used cordless leaf blower for that but itā€™s a bit too big and awkward really.

Iā€™ve opted for a 180,000 rpm 9,000 mAh device from Amazon, which will be delivered tomorrow. With a 5% off voucher applied it was pennies more than Ā£40. Contactless snow removal is one of the suggested uses which seems like a good idea. If theyā€™re decent then Iā€™ll I get another to keep them in both winter ready cars.

Itā€™s arrived today. Itā€™s very small and surprisingly tactile, in fact it feels very good quality and not what I was expecting.

Iā€™m not sure that itā€™s either large enough or powerful enough to clear anything but the lightest, softest and fluffiest of snow.

That said I would say itā€™s more than up to the job of clearing water from crevices and brakes after washing the car - my main reason.

There are attachments but I donā€™t think any will be suitable for clearing debris from the drain holes on the car - will be fine for leaves in the scuttle.

Itā€™s very cold here but completely dry so not able to easily test it. I might blast some leaves when walking the dog later!

To release a brake disc from the pads, first lift the vehicle and remove the wheel. Then remove the brake caliper holder by unscrewing the bolts, and if necessary, use pliers or a tool to push the caliper piston back. If the pads are stuck, apply a little penetrating oil and let it act before gently removing them. If the disc is blocked by rust, use a rubber mallet to loosen it. Finally, clean all the parts and reassemble everything, checking that everything is working correctly.

It has been solved. Using any lubricant near the pads isn't a good idea.

Lol.

My detailer came over on Friiday so we tested the turbo jet fan on a car whilst it was wet. Itā€™s not up to the job of drying a whole car, which isnā€™t a surprise but itā€™s smaller enough to poke between the spokes on most cars, and itā€™s fine for blowing out water from wing mirrors and other trim which tend to ā€œdribbleā€ after washing.

I tried it on snow and u less itā€™s very fresh and very light, itā€™s nowhere near powerful enough to clear snow from the car. The narrowest nozzle gives it a little more impact but then even if it was powerful enough it would take an age to clear an area as the focus of the jet is then very narrow, so itā€™s no good for clearing snow as I hoped it might.

Today I tested it on small wet leaves which had stuck to a wet car parked outside overnight in the storm. To my surprise it did a good job, and removed almost all of them without contact and without using the narrowest nozzle. It would work really well on larger and/or drier leaves, as theyā€™d move more easily.

Overall, itā€™s just about good enough for me to keep, but at Ā£40 I couldnā€™t really recommend it, but I could understand others taking a punt like me, as theyā€™re handy to have around.

Do what I do....use the 240v garden leaf blower......Works a treat......... virtually dries the car if you have a good layout of wax on and cost nothing as I already had it!!!
