The leather on my E30 convertible is looking a bit dated and cracked.

What do other forum members recommend to bring it back to life, I've noticed Gliptone seems to be popular?

TIA. :thumb:

Here's a couple of pictures of the interior;

Hi Lee, give Gliptone a Google, it realy is the mutts nuts. tried it on my own skin (face) but it was to far gone.
It is more than just a cleaner, there are several products to choose from.

Gliptone is very good SP - i give mine a wipedown with neutral PH baby wipes first to get off some of the dirt and then used the cleaner and conditioner. Although mine could really need a refurb as i have the usual bolster wear, i 'Gliptone' them every 6 months to keep em supple.

Thats ok bud. I'm sorry but the guy above saying gliptone and its products are more then a cleaner. Have you seen the photo's above to this guy's car. None of there products will enhance the look of that interior. That needs full leather restoration work. The like's of Gliptone are to clean, condition and protect a little in some of the products. But not restore cracked, dry, damaged leather.

I'll be giving the interior a good clean and wipe the leather down with baby wipes and see how it looks from there.

It certainly looks 'well worn', it was sat in a garage between 2006 and 2011.

Never mind the leather, you appear to have left the roof down and someones had away with your stereo !!

The bloke I bought the car from took the original out to fit one with an iPod connection and somehow couldn't find it to put back in when he came to sell it...

Why not push the boat out and get a retrim? ;)

I'm already on it...:thumb:

I think it would be worth a go at refurbishing it first, what's the worse it can cost me? £20 or £30? I bet a re-trim is going to be at least £500 through my contact.:o

Liquid Leather products are used or sold by: Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Ferrari (Maranello Concessionaires), Aston Martin, TVR, Bristol Cars, Saab GB, the largest leather furniture manufacturers and retailers including DFS, Furniture Village, hundreds of furniture repair technicians plus most of the "CE" accredited made to measure motorcycle leather clothing manufacturers. Once again bud have a look at the pictures at the top of the post. There kits won't fix this. On seats this bad, it might fill that gaps for a couple of months but will eventually look just like this. It needs a full restoration kit or like said above re trimed. To the OP, you can get an entire car re trimmed for £500.00 thats amazing. It cost me £600.00 just to have my seats in my work van re trimmed.

I would definitely use Gliptone or alternatively products from LTT Leather. You would be very surprised at the difference they can make.

Wipe the seat with a warm, damp cloth to open the leather pores then use the cleanser.

When you have all the dirt out have a go with a scuff master kit to re-condition.

Then treat with a conditioner and waterproofer.

You'll find loads of guides online.

The state of the leather in sweetpea's photograph requires the use of something a little bit more than Gliptone. I would recommend you do a search on Leatherique - I have used the Leatherique Rejuvenator on many occasions for leather which was in the same or worse condition than sweetpea's and it works wonders. I also have the full Gliptone kit for most of my cars which is good for recolouring and scuff covering but does not have the restoration properties of Leatherique. You can use both products together if you do things in the correct order.

Also Should add that when maintaining leather you should always massage leather cream into the seats otherwise the leather dries and cracks.

Used Gliptone colours and cleaners over the years on old Jags, Astons Rolls, Some of them well cracked and the results have always been good. Last time was on a cream settee at home which due to grandchildrens shoes had some bad marks and scraps. Used the cleaner then the colour which Glipton mixed for me and it came back like new. Highly recomended.:thumb:

A kit from furnitureclinic will completely refresh that leather.

All leather used in modern cars is aniline leather and it's just the paint coat that cracks off the surface, not the actual leather that cracks.

I think you have that about face Will

"Aniline leather is a type of leather dyed exclusively with soluble dyes without covering the surface with a topcoat paint or insoluble pigments. The resulting product retains the hide's natural surface with the 'grain', i.e. visible pores, scars etc. of the complete original animal's skin structure"
