LED lights, compatibility?

I'm sure it would only become irrelevant if all your bulbs were Cluster Led's. Would it not?

Hi,

I've try the 5W5 Philips Blue Vision, and yes they are white, but still yellowish in comparison with my HID kit, so i've run some LED bulbs for city lights, but they seem to blown in less than 2 months....:(

So I fit again some standard bulbs but i'm not happy with this issue.

I had the Bulb failure warning lighting too when run the LED bulbs, but resolve this problem by runing extra wires outside Headlight's housing to plug some standart filament bulbs...:)

Regards,

Frenchy.

Yes it would be irrelevant if all the bulbs were clusters, but for the bulbs which were not the original system would remain in tact and function as desired. I've been looking into this because the c class keeps blowing rear lights, it was very irritating changing it in the pouring rain last time

If it keeps blowing rear lights, then maybe there is a problem that needs to be addressed .....

Haven't had to replace one in 3 years in my car ...

OT .... Frenchy , those wheels look great on your car BTW !! :bannana: are they w211 e class wheels ?

Probably 211-style replicas from Rondell or whoever, nice wheels! :)

Yes, those are 18's W211-style made in Italy, and bought on ebay.de

Thanks for comments ;)

Interesting !:)

Thx for the link...;) BTW : U = R x I and P= U x I are good def. to remember.

PIAA Platinum white filament bulbs .... more than white enough for me, will match HID nicely, and no resistors needed. Less than £10 for pair of W5W sidelights.

The ***BIG*** advantage using LED's for brake lights is the reduced "ON"-Time. They lit up instantly. No half second delay as for light bulbs. BIG difference when you have to make an emergency brake on Autobahn while having some jerk behind you that wants to pass you in 250 kph...

BTW: EU has approved using flashing (LED) brake lights. Most newer vehicles in the "premium" segment is expected to implement this as it gives a few extra tenths of a seconds in response time.

Installed them today. Here is a comparison:

I think the main difference is that the light from the LED cluster is more directional - you don't see much of the reflection of the light on the top of the lamp reflector. I'm not sure if this is a benefit or not, it certainly stands out but a sidelight really isn't for anything other than 'hello, I'm here'. It certainly looks nice though, much nicer than the tungsten of the main lamp. I think I'll have to upgrade the bulbs in the headlamp now to something that matches!

I still get the bulb failure warning, but the wiring is very easy to get to so I don't think it will be an issue to wire a couple of bulbs onto the underside of the bonnet for inspection. I broke one of the bulb holders getting a lamp out anyway, so I have to go to the local dealer and get replacements. The plastic bulb holders are quite brittle.

Heh, I wonder how many people will start thinking I'm BiB with those slightly blueish lamps....

Wow !! Very nice !

What is the Ref. please of those LED lights ?

You wrote "6 LEDS bulbs", i presume it was such stuff, right ?

Well I'm pretty sure H6W means 6 Watts - on 12VDC thats a current draw of 0.5A, which means the standard H6W bulbs have a resistance of 24ohms.

So when I get back next week I'll stick my ammeter in the circuit, see what current the LED bulbs are drawing, and I should then know exactly the value of resistor to put in there.

Mind you, I would probably get away with something reasonably close, say 20ohms. Something like a 22ohm 10W wirewound (RS Stock no. 159-916) would do it, screwed onto the nearest bit of redundant metal bodywork. They're available from Ebay but its cheaper to buy them myself.

LED Lights on W211

Hi,
I have just picked up on hire a facelifted W211... this has LED Side lights on the front.... I'll try and take a picture of the lamp... but it looks like they have a prism infront of the LEDs to project the light up and around more...

I wonder if you can program the buld warning system on the W211 to ignore certain lights....

Hi guys just tried to put quad led bulbs on to replace my stock sidelights on my w219 however two things went wrong first the warning lights came on which I understand from reading your threads however it seems that only two of the leds on the quad were coming on and they were blinking on and off. The fogs and side lights come on when I unlock the car and when I lock the car they dim off however with the quad led bulbs they don't turn off in sync with each other. What do you suggest I do?
