Light Switch Illumination

Only just noticed this evening that my new headlamp light switch (fitted when I had the headlamp washers fitted) illuminates!!!

All the symbols around the edge illuminate when key in position 1. Turn key to position 2 and the centre 'bulb' symbol and the indicator stripe illuminate as well

The old switch, originally for halogens and no washers, only illuminated the foglamps symbols, when pulled. Nothing else illuminated, which I thought is normal?

What is the experience of other 203 owners?

I have wondered since I bought my 202 (I know the question was about 203s) what should actually light up and what shouldn't. I had a couple of obvious blown bulbs (one heater control, half of rev counter) but there are other bits that look like they should light up.

The headlight switch looks like it should but doesn't, also it looks like the ignition should have a 'halo' but doesn't

Ah! The illuminated air vent control conundrum ...

Looks like 'luxury' a/c or Thermatronic (SA 581) provides this and illuminated light switch?

Hi,
If the collar around your ignition switch raised, it is the transponder for the immobiliser system (this is only true for cars with the single button, flip out key blade remote).
I have a friend who several years ago had a couple of 202s, and he swears blind that at least one of them the switch surround illuminated, indeed if you read the Haynes manual for the 202, it shows how to replace it in a photograph though not very clearly, but neither of my 202's illuminate and from threads on the forum the consensus seems to be that they don,t.
I did hear a story that the early 202 cars were fitted with 124 light switches and therefore illuminated, but when they ran out they deleted the lit switch for the 202. How true this is I don,t know.
