my E270 (w211) switches the lights on when you lock / unlock so that you can see your way to or frm the car.

my clk430 (w208) 2000 reg - doesn't - is it meant to ? I have looked in the settings but can't find anything ?

At your choice. Buried in the menus there is a function to switch it on and off.

All in the handbook

As far as I am aware the W208 does not have the headlamp locator function at all.

I've got a CLK of similar vintage and I don't think that feature is available. Nothing about it in the owner's manual at least.

The surround lighting was introduced about the time of the W211, so is not on earlier models.

*but* it is on canadian w202s including the C36 (pre-97!), so it might be a regional setting, just like the alarm beep.

Now alarm beeping would be handy! Does that means its possible to get my 2001 W208 beeping when I lock and unlock it?

I'm sure it can be done to the W208 as well by changing the settings for the rear sam unit to Nethlands via Star, but its a case of whether the Stealer is willing to do it. Apparently, in the UK it is againt some sort of Legislation and alot of Stealers will not do it.

When my car went in for battery recall earlier this week I had asked the Stealer to set the rear sam unit on my car to Netherlands to activate the bleep upon lock/unlock and explained how it could be done (I even gave them instructions which I had obtained from a US Forum on the procedure incase they said it cannot be done which some other Stealers have said to me in the past when I had enquired to fobb me off). In the end the Stealer said it can be done and they know how to BUT they are not prepared to do it. Only way I wil probably be able to activate it is by getting friendly with someone who does have access to Star Diagnostics... as every Stealer I have approcahed has refused to do it or denied knowing any knowledge.

similar experience to me. I've also pressed here the Stealership. They said me, several times, they are not able to do this setting to "the Netherlands" because this can be done only at factory or with a particular access code they don't have.

But please if you have a more detailed procedure (you obtained from US forum) please give me that, I'll try again to the Stealership.

thanks ;)

I'll PM u the details but am not sure if same would apply to the W202 but i guess it would not be too different... :)

It is a useful W211 function in the dark but I only enable it when likely to be really needed. Quite easy to do from the steering wheel buttons.

These vehicles suffer a bit from battery drain issues and if you do short journeys having a car that lights up like a Christmas Tree, foglights included, every time you unlock it does not help.

Touchwood the headlamp locatar function does not appear to drain the battery in the W203 but this could perhaps be due to the fact that the W211 may have more electronics/gadgets etc. #
