Limo rescue complete

Are you back in Richmond Sp!ke ?

Can't you hot foot it up to GSF in Feltham ?

Yes, back in Richmond but GSF cant get stock for two days.

Need to find a friendly local W123 owner I think :(

Sp!ke,

GSF Coventry are just a couple of miles from me. I take it they don't have one?

If so, it can be in your hands on Friday if that's quick enough.

PJ

Thanks for the offer but the only GSF branch with stock is southampton. I guess I'm going to have to hot foot it down there to get the part unless a local stealership has stock or I can find a W123 locally to borrow the bits off it for the MOT. (or it costs me for another retest)

Ummmmm .....

ECP in chessington ?

or THI on stanley road in Teddington , they are usually pretty good .....

Does it look different to a w124 one, could you pinch it out of the coupe for the day ?

EDIT or a scrappy, theres one on the road between Shepperton and Hampton

:D

What do you need matey, give me a buzz ill pm you my number..

Otherwise GSF are near heathrow, not far from you.. the relay is very cheap..

Is it the one built into the hazard switch or the later type which is under the dash?

See, it probably was used for the Harrods run (if it was in the UK before!)...

Quite possible (especially if it was in the UK when the W123 was in fashion back in the early 80s...).

Anyone know anyone selling a w210 diesel Right hand drive. LIMO

Any condition. Good or bad even damaged.

I have seen one (W210 stretched limo) at Hyde Park and it was a pre face lift - it looked ugly!!! Arabs of course came out of it.

These modern stretched Limos remind me of funeral cars. If money was not an issue and I wanted stylish/comfortable/luxurious transport for my family then I personally would get a LWB Sprinter with fully kitted luxury interior with comfortable seats etc. The Sprinter would also look better/cool...;)

PS. The white American Limos look the worse and are “chav” like…

However, the W123 limo is a nice looking classic car.

Agree with that. You're right about pre-facelfit W210 limos, they just look wrong!

Drove behind a facelift one the other day, only saw it was a Limo when I went to overtake it ;)

OK, slight progress.

I stripped and cleaned the hazzard switch and now the hazzards work correctly all round.

The indicators still flash too fast however. The legal limit is 120 flashes per minute. The tester said mine were flashing 180 times per minute at test time.

As a temporary bodge I ran an extra bulb in series on each side (tucked away in the boot) and have brought it down to 140 per minute but I'm still over.

Damn strict MOT tester, cant believe he sat there with a stopwatch counting the flashes. :(

Anyone got any bright ideas?

The wattage is correct (21w) but by adding an extra bulb (Now two extra bubs) I've increased the load twofold and the relay is still working too fast.

How about wiring in a variable resistor on the electric circuit, they will cost next to nothing and are available from any electrical shop and will allow you to adjust the speed as required.

(PS feel free to ignore me if its a dumb suggestion)

the MOT station sounds a bit of a joke, 24 hours for a a retest, thats just a con! we give 7 days and most I know give at least 72 Hours...

I dont know that you can offer such leeway now that the MOT test is done online in real time with the DVLA.

Its only a free retest if its a simple electrical problem and its brought back within 24 hours of failure according to the DVLA.

That said... I've been looking around and according to my interpretation, It seems this 120 times per second only applies to cars first registered after 1986.

see http://www.ukmot.com/1-5.asp

Am I reading it correctly? Is the tester in the wrong here or is it me?

I reckon you're right Spike - I had an awkward MOT once for exactly the same reason, but on a bike.

It was an early 80's Yamaha LC and the MOT tester was not satisfied with the speed of the indicator flash speed (again, too fast...)

I discovered that as it was registered before a certain date (1986 does sound familiar) it didn't even require them for the test, and so I smugly removed them for the purpose of the excercise...

I wouldn't have been so annoyed had I not already fitted a new battery, relay, checked continuity of all wiring and the switch, and checked/replaced all bulbs and contacts - they're been the same speed on all the other bikes I'd had as well...

Oh well, time to mention your find to your MOT tester and see what they say?

Good luck :)

Blimey is that still there? I remember leaving my Austin 1300 there in 1978!

I'd have thought increasing the load on the flasher relay would make it flash faster, not slower? Certainly in the 'old days' they were based on a bi-metal strip, so the higher the current the quicker it operated. If an indicator bulb blew the remaining one often wouldn't flash at all (continuously on).

If an indicator bulb fails or is missing these days then the indicator flashes faster. This is certainly true for my 98 W202.

That has been my experience, plus it was my first thought when I read the opening post.
