Locking wheel nut 'key' is missing on my car - before I have a puncture and am completely stuffed - can I buy a replacement or do I have to replace the set of locking nuts with a matched key???

If so how do i get the nuts off???

You can order a replacement through Mercedes if they are MB ones - pop to a dealer and they'll tell you what number it is.

I had to buy one not too long back after the inside/pattern bit broke away from the nut. There is a warning sticker on them not to use air guns!! After alot of messing at the dealer, they told me it was one of 30 and it should have the number stamped on it, but it never, So then they told me it should be in the rear of my service book, but it wasn't.So after all that messing they brought the tray of 30 out for me to try then ordered one for me for next day at £20!! I asked if i could have the one from their set and they have the new one which was getting delivered before 9am the next day to save me going back for it but they wouldn't. It was after 4.30pm as well so the chances of them needing there one was very slim indeed!!
I've had the original one welded up in work as a spare and is alot more solid than they come new!!

thanks guys - I just hope MB bolton are as helpful as your stealers!!

There should be a little blue sticker in the back of your service book
"Codierung XX" is the lockbolt number

i had to buy one after i bought my car and thought it didnt come with one! bought it and ended up finding the original hiding in the boot! PM me your number on your key and i`ll check if its the same.

no little blue sticker in back of service book - big blue, same size as service book, stuck in page at back of my service book, but no where does it say 'codireung'

But you'd still need a key to remove the old ones! ;)

I'd stick with the proper OEM Mercedes ones, £20 for a key - job done. :)

I'm sure I read somewhere a while back that the OEM ones are in fact made by McGard. McGard make them for most of the top car manufacturers. Plus McGuard ones are Thatcham approved, so you can't really go wrong either way.

I just hope that the details of Big Sean's wheel nut code are on record somewhere, otherwise it could be a huge pain in the @rse.

But as I said, you'd still need to remove the old ones!

Simple solution is to visit your friendly dealer, tell them the situation and for about £20 you will save yourself lots of hassle and also obtain a brand new key for your existing nuts.

No-brainer IMO :)

If the details arn't on record, It's just a matter of the dealer giving you the full set of 30 to try in the car park, only takes 5 mins ;)

Having seen this post I decided to see what the number was on my locking wheel nut key/socket. Surprise surprise nothing on the key/socket apart from the air tools warning label, and nothing in the handbook, so you would have to visit MB to match it and find out the number anyway. Bearing in mind that the Mb branch that service the car have all the other details what's the chances of them having it on record, or is that asking too much?
lofty :bannana: enough to make you dance.

PS the answer to the last part of my post is :- no they don't keep records, BUT the set of master keys each branch holds are stamped with a number, therefore when matched with your locks/nuts, a new key can be ordered.

I only have had lock nuts because they came with all my cars as standard spec.

Personally, I would not be bothered whether I had them or not as the lock nuts can be drilled out by pro thieves. Worse scenario would be having to change your spare wheel in the middle of no where and having the key snap/break on you!!! Some may say call Mobilo out but that is a long winded process if it is an emergency as changing a wheel is very easy to do and does not take long at all (10 min job). Even if Mobilo did attend a scenario where the lock nut key snapped/broke they would probably uplift the car back to the Stealership:eek:

Lofty: MB can identify the lock nut key from the vehicle's chassis details IF it is still the OEM lock nuts fitted on to the vehilce when it left the factory. If you buy a new set of lock nuts from Stealership then they come with a pin code identifying the key with the paperwork/instructions.

This is highly unlikely, it's not in the datacard! The Mobilo van and the workshop have complete sets though, so finding the right one takes seconds.

Depends on what year your car is...

That's OK if you don't mind waiting an HOUR by the roadside.

MB give you gloves and a sheet to kneel on.
