c32 amg
hi I bit the bullet and sent my c32 amg in last week for a full autobox rebuild, I got it back today and all is well except that I now don't have the lock up in every gear like I had before , I don't know if that's a bad thing really because of all the problems associated with this in nearly all c32 amgs .it locks up in 5th on the motorway just not in the lower gears anymore why would this be the case ?

What the hell , has it been disengaged by star , your fuel econ will be bad , If you have the jerk , change the Tcc solenoid

Hi gazC32

I'm probably going to get laughed off the forum for this post but, here goes.

I had the harsh lock up on my C32 and changed most of the bits you did. I also replaced the solenoid as Billy recommends. It was a lot better for a while, but as seems to be the case with this fault, after a while it came back. It was so bad last week I almost bought another car to drive until I sold this one. I then read a service update I will try and put here that explained the adaptation of TC lockup clutch. Hard to find somewhere to do this to the letter but it got me thinking how the software might work. The long and short of it is that I followed this as well as I could and it made it ten times better and I have a theory why. I have a bad habit of pressing the brake just long enough to get the shifter out of park and then letting the car engage D with the brake off. If the car is sensing the torque of the engagement this will probably make it seem a lot softer than it is. I know the TC is not locked up at this point but it isn't for the procedure in the info I will post either. Anyway, long story long, I have been engaging D with the brake firmly applied for a couple of days now and the lockup is barely perceptible.

You may think this is a wind up or some kind of wishful thinking but if you were even a passenger in my car a week ago, and again today, you would certainly notice a vast difference.

Anybody with the lockup thump give it a go and ask yourself if you have this habit too.

Out of curiosity, how do you know if the torque converter has or hasn't "locked up"?

Well, It's difficult to be sure now but, before I changed my bad habit and followed the above procedure, there was a hard thump about a second after the first to second gear shift at lowish throttle pull offs.
