Not one of those things that occured to me at the time of purchase. BUT, what if the key for the locking nuts are nowhere to be found? (about to rush out and search with a sweat).

Can the wheels be released by the usual tyre outlets, or will the car have to be sent back to the factory and stripped down to the last bolt courtesy of MB?

If they're OEM locking nuts you may be lucky and be able to order a new key from MB.

At the back of your service book where the option codes are look for a blue sticker marked Codierung, the numbers after this are the id of the locking key you have.

Alternatively the dealers have master locking nut keys that they can try, they'll be able to remove the bolt and then order the right key using this.

You can buy locking wheel nut/bolt removers, well garages can anyway! Also if OEM the Merc dealer should have a master set, I know they do for the McGard Smart oem ones.

Sometimes it can be cheaper to have the originals removed & buy a new set than buy a new key.

New wheel nut key £14 from dealer.;)

your dealer will have a set, so even if you dont have the number of the key, they will be able to find it for you! if they are not mercedes locking nuts, most wheels and tyre places will be able to take it off, usually using a socket!
